Do you want LEGAL immigration stopped too?
My Own Head | 4/3/006 | Me

The question has come up on different threads here - we know everyone who wants all ILLEGAL immigration stopped, but who is for stopping all LEGAL immigration as well? Whether it is just for a "short" time or permanently, let me know.

I'm getting the impression that you were the guy who liked to stand up in the middle of the high school cafeteria, and shout "FOOD FIGHT!"

I say no. Legal immigration is just fine. Actually we probably need more legal immigrants. But first - very important to make it first - we need to expel every last damned illegal we can find. Immigration to the US ought to be capped at a million per year tops.

So, that's THREE votes so far - anyone else?

1)I want to see a complete halt to all immigration at least for the time being.

2)I want to see *all* illegals,of *Even* race and nationality, expelled from the country.

3)After #2 is complete,a small,*very* selective immigration plan *might* be in our best interest.Such a plan should *only* include people who have *already* demonstrated a skill of which we are in serious need.Nursing comes quickly to mind as a skill that might qualify. Also, anyone of good character who honorably serves in any branch of our Armed Forces for at least one *full* hitch should qualify for serious consideration. No guarantees.

My question assumes stopping ALL legal immigrants, including the ones who would teach at Princeton, rich ones, or even the one who finds the cure to cancer.

"actually, that isn't even on the statue - it is from an ode to that statue written by a soft-hearted fool."

Nope. It is actually an inscription on the Statue of Liberty.

A giant statue on an island in the harbor of New York City; it depicts a woman representing liberty, raising a torch in her right hand and holding a tablet in her left. At its base is inscribed a poem by Emma Lazarus that contains the lines “Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

I think legal immigration should be 300k per year, rather than 1 million; although this depends on the current social/economic realities. If we could flush all the illegals out, our rate could actually be fairly high.

Race is not particularly important, but no one nation or area should be allowed to dominate in numbers, i.e., no 900,000 from Mexico, 100,000 from rest of world combined crap. Immigrants from allied nations should be heavily favored, and when I say allied I mean troops-in-Iraq allied, not France allied.

Without legal immigration, who is going to pay into Social Security? The 1.6 additional kids most couples didn't have?

If you want SS in retirement, you had better be willing to welcome legal immigrants.

The levels are too low if you ask me. Worse, however, is the way they are skewed to allow mexicans in before any other group on the planet.

Nobody below the age of 45 is foolish enough to expect Social Security to provide for their retirements.

Why would I want a socialist entitlement like SS? I hope its long dead by the time I retire.

"If you want SS in retirement, you had better be willing to welcome legal immigrants"

I prefer reforming SS by making it a forced, private retirement account, that it should have always been, rather than have my children and grandchildren (if I have any) live in a balkanized country unrecognizable to me and my generation.

I think legal immigration needs to be increased, with the process much more streamlined and expedited.

Increased to what number? How many would you allow in? Numbers please.

Yes, we should have legal immigration. FIRST we need a bureaucracy that can handle it. According to Gonzales who heads the process, the current system can't find about 4 million who have overstayed their visas. We have incompetent cronies incapable of overseeing any guest worker program.
