The reason pit bulls are so dangerous is because all it takes is one big chomp, and permanent mutilation or death is the result.
Dumb girl. NEVER get between a mother dog and her puppies.
Especially a Pit Bull!
Can you say "Lawsuit" boys and girls? I knew you could.
I would have to agree with that. I learned that very long ago.
That said, it still seems only a dog like this would a) immediately spring to action even when the "threat" is still somewhat far away and b) take 1 big strangle-hold that takes entire parts of bodies off.

Any dog will react like that at a perceived threat. Little dogs will do the same as big dogs, just the bites are different.
I've been on the bad end of a little terrier, no body parts lost but stitches were required.
Wait. I have that backwards. Shoot the dog (and puppies) sue the owner for everything they have.
The entire breed has no reason to exist.
Sorry, disagree. (Get ready for a single anecdote.) As a child I had a German Shepherd who had an accidental litter (as a 2yo, so it's not as if she was "too old to care"). While we cared for the pups my parents made sure we knew to respect the mother-guardian mentality.
Always good advice, regardless.
However, never once did she show any serious threat, maybe minor, nor EVER automatically launch into an attack on anyone, me or even friends.
My aunt has had many Border Collie litters without "no-warning" attacks - never mind horrid injuries.
And I otherwise don't hear too much about breeders or casual BYB having real problems with their bitches.
This dog sounds as if she just automatically jumped the girl, far from the litter, without warning. Then, typical, held on for dear life. That wouldn't surprise me too much with the pit-bull type. Over-sensitivity, in this case; high drive you might call it. Most dogs, when "disciplining", will simply snap at one - maybe even actually bite - but let go; that's the "last warning". And that's usually after a warning "growl" that's ignored.
I wonder if the dog it ate the girl's lip and chin because it protecting puppies?
I'm sure she did, basically. But her reaction was more hyper-sensitive and intense, I'm betting, than the average bitch.
Yes, that was my point. Unfortunately, her spawn will now be sold to other families.
That is an uninformed opinion, and you have every right to it....but I completely disagree.
Dog ping
At some point, homeowners' insurance should start cutting off dog owners from coverage.
Actually the breed was created for blood sports by misguided individuals.
So you're saying all pit bulls are naturally predisposed to violence?
The genes from selection via the "pit" remain no matter how you slice it.
This is retarded. You absolutely don't let children go near a nursing dog unless you know already what kind of "protective" the dog will be. If this kid just ran into the house and the dog was protecting her puppies, there is great reason in any dog's eyes to do what was done. This was not an unprovoked attack. Anyone who thinks so doesn't know anything about dogs. This is fact. As for your "genes from selection via the "bla bla bla, their genes aren't the problem. Uneducated people having strong dogs is. And then having children? And not teaching them about dogs? And then letting them charge into a house unannounced to see a nursing dog??? My god, it doesn't take a genious or a dog expert to see that this was an accident waiting to happen.
My dogs had puppies a long time ago. Human facial features never ended up in the bitch's stomach.
