Because Mount Merapi in Indonesia is threatening to blow, and because "nuee ardentes" or pyroclastic flows are the major concern, I thought a few pictures of hot flaming clouds of gas would be appropriate.
The first is from a previous eruption of Merapi:

The next is one coming down the side of Mount St. Helens in August 1980, three months after the big blast in May.

And third, a nice shot of a flow and incandescent rockfall on Montserrat from Stromboli On-Line:

My safe distance=pictures.
...Very, very, very, very cool looking cloud formations. Especially the first one. Makes you wonder, what on earth is going on inside that critter...
I love these photos but I really don't want to be anywhere near it. Awesome, just really awesome! Thanks.
I actually would like to see it -- like viewing Augustine Volcano (Alaska) from the coast, 12-15 km away. SAFE distance!
I've seen 3 volcanoes and they are magnificent to look at, but very scary too.
Hillary's Presidential Campaign office? If there's a smell of sulfur, it could be her mentor's HQ...
That's funny...
LOL Man, look at that pompadour on ol' Teddy!
