Prayers for my 24 year old kittie -- (doing much better now)
Me | 07/20/2006 | me

Posted on 07/20/2006 11:51:19 AM PDT by freedumb2003

My kittie "Musica" is 24 years old. Up until now, she has done well but the vet says her thyroid is failing.

She has been with me for almost my entire adult life. She has been on thyroid (and other) medication for the last 6 years but it looks like the medication isn't working any more.

The vet said radiation therapy might work but 24 equates to over a hundred years old in human terms. It would be torture to put her through that. Even a trip to the vet is an ordeal.

whine whine, you're holding me --....... yikes! Don't leave me!

My other beloved kittie, Neysa (Musica's sister), was a classic "lap cat." She loved getting in my lap and rubbing her head on my chin.

Musica was NEVER a lap kittie -- when she was younger it was HER call if she wanted lovin' -- and then she wanted 120% of your attention.

Now, she won't stay in our lap, but she curls around our heads after waking us up to take our pillow.

And that is at home, where she is comfortable. A week or more in a strange place with strange people after having a procedure that at the very least would make her feel wierd? She wouldn't survive. I sure as heck isn't the money. If it tapped me completely, I would do everything for her. Unless I thought it was causing her pain.

I see what you mean. I didn't know they had to do all of that because of the radioactivity, then again, radioactive cats have 18 "half-lives." B-D I know, it is an oldie. B-) Seriously, I wonder if Pansy could take it but she is a fighter. a few weeks ago, she had fluid on the lungs and they had to drain it using needles in the sides. The vet said that a few cats give up then and there but she took it quite well although towards the end, she was tired of sitting there while the procedure was done. We've adjusted the dosage and she it almost back to herself although we might have to fine tune things a little, she still is a little aloof. Still though, she eats quite well, seems to be putting on a little more weight and bugging me for food, water and when I shave in the morning. Pixie, my other black cat, chased Pansy around and Pansy then chased her. Also, I have a 17 year old, grey and white, named Corky, Pansy like tho wash her when Corky was a kitten in 1989 and she still does to this day.

Sometimes I wonder which came first the nurturing human or the nurturing pet, they go together so well.

I love their personalities.

Dog people have no idea. And I love dogs. The current plan for retirement is a collie (for my wife) and a shephard (for me). Obviously, the plan calls for a big yard.

But we will always have cats. Both Musica and Neysa grew up with dogs, so I know cats and dogs can live happily together of they learn about each other early.

Musica and Neysa were a matched set. Had Musica passed first, Neysa would have died of a broken heart (Musica was always the more independent).

They washed each other. When Neysa passed, Musica used to plunk down on the last spot in the bedroom where Musica sat. That lasted a few months.

Sounds like Pansy is pretty tough, too.

Eating is, of course, super important. When they have their appetite, and DEMAND food, that is a great sign :)

Thanks A-Girl! :)

I am a little slow in getting back to so many of you who have checked in.

But so many have been so loving it is tough to keep up!

FR is a blessed place. And I am blessed (twice, thrice?) by my FRiends who have such love in their hearts :)

I am also humbled.

Hello freepers, I have a favor to ask.

About eight years ago, I rescued a cat from the pound. He is an awesome cat, and I don't regret adopting him. The one problem is that I am alergic (he was meant to be an outdoor cat as a result). This cat is not your usual cat, he is almost like a dog, and craves attention. The only problem is..... he is a crier, and a loud one at that. Why does he cry, he wants attention.

Unfortunately, he wants attention very early in the morning. I started getting complaints from neighbors and had to board him temporarily while we moved into our new home. The boarder said, that he only cried the first night, there were no other animals in his area. But the minute another cat was brought in, no more crying.

Here is the problem, I just can't adopt another cat right now, as much as I'd like to and the pound is out of the question. Is there anyone out there, any cat lovers, that would be interested? He is a beautiful cat and is very sweet and playful.

I live in the Fresno area. If there is anyone out there interested, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks!
