(Vanity) Suggestion for FR fundraising
N/A (Vanity) | July 24, 2006 | 1-Eagle

Posted on 07/23/2006 11:15:45 PM PDT by 1-Eagle

Not really sure where to put this. Would like to post it for any comments, additions, subtractions, other FReepers might have.

Suggestion: How about programming some stars that go with your handle on posts as a vanity tag. So you'd get one star attached to your handle per $10/month you are currently giving to FR on auto deduction plan. (or per $20/month.)

Would like to hear what other FReepers think about the idea, even if they disagree!

What do you think? Would it be cool, or not?

**1-Eagle <--- wahoo! I gots two stars!

(well, and 1/2, grin)

TOPICS: Free Republic Policy/Q&A; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: contribution; monthly; support
Feel free to weigh in, is it a good deal, or a tacky nonsense? The stars would be small gold ones, or perhaps a small blue field with a white star in them (patriotic theme) for example.

It'll need some refinement for quarterly donors, etc., but I like the principle. Shows exactly who the Freeploaders are.

Some of us donate in proportion to our spendable income. It might surprise you what many of us are able to squeak by with each month just to stay alive. I'm just as proud of the relatively small amount I donate here as those who are able to donate more than my annual spendable income.

How about if we each have an annual yard sale and send in the proceeds? If we are already making the budget, what more is needed anyway? Unless JimRob needs to expand or replace equipment or needs to increase his operating fund. In which case, he should let us know how much he needs. No problo, as I'm sure the regulars would jump in and meet the need somehow.

I like your idea of a yard sale, but I think it should be done here at Free Republic. Something like a craigslist for conservatives. It would probably help in getting local FReepers together and just maybe, the local FReepers could end up like our wonderful DC chapter. Now, there are a bunch of people who have made a difference!

I'd like to start buy offering Mr.X for sale. Runs fine, just missing the brain! Cash or barter for a snowmobile or yard work!

Don't like the idea. I'm a dollar-a-day FReeper, but have a FReeper co-worker that is hard pressed to donate because he has 4 great kids. I don't have any children. Who's the greater contributor to our society, my $30 bucks a month or future conservatives?
