I've seen it and could care less, there's nothing on TV that I need a sharper picture for.

I can see having a few special pieces of jewelry. My husband has a family crest ring that was given by his grandmother to his grandfather on their wedding day. I have a pearl necklace that was his grandmothers. But if you just said, "Here's 5K, go buy yourself something... jewelry wouldn't be high on my list. I like your vacation idea, though!

The real point of my post isn't that a rock is so special. The real point is that TV is a system for viewing artificial reality. I spent about $200 on my current TV and use it for watching news when really big things happen (like 9/11) and rented DVDs. Otherwise it is a waste of space. I can't imagine spending any more on one because it seems so narcissistic.

At the risk of stepping on toes, it seems to me to be evidence of the fact that our culture is completely lost that people would spend $500 or more on artifical reality. There are so many ways to spend $500 on reality that you can enjoy so much more. And if you really can't think of anything better to do with your money, the Salvation Army or Samaritan's Purse or many other fine organizations can put it to good use.

Buy a cheap TV that gives you a good enough picture to figure out what's going on when you really need to, and spend your money on things of value.

Just my $.02.

Shalom.

Never seen any of those chanels, and wouldn't pay for anything they offer.

Not a movie or fiction fan in fact the last movie I went to was almost 50 years ago.

The only thing I ever watch if i'm not working is auto races and they are plenty good on standard TV.

I could care less if a fly craps on the windshield.

My 1982 Zenith System 325 inch console, has a great picture on it still and I think it could give HDTV a run for its money. Well, consider the source, I'm terminally nearsighted with severe astigmatism so there ya go. B-) Seriously, crap is crap, no matter if you watch it on a 1948 B&W TV or in HDTV. As a backup, we have a 1998 19 inch Zenith color TV, I think it was $179 or $199 at the time. I've been watching the console since early 1983 when we got her, she is showing her age a little, very rarely, she has some sort of heat problem, I'm trying to score some parts for it, so the 19 incher comes in for a few days to a week's duty every few months. Still it sits on top of the console, ready for action, plus we can watch the Steelers and NASCAR at the same time. B-) Wish it was back in my room though, playing Playstation on a 1966 Sony B&W 9 inch TV is kind of tough, especially when I play Final Fantasy VII, when you breed the Chocobos (think of an ostrich type bird crossed with a chicken and a canary, they kind of look like that), you can't tell if you get a green or a blue one. B-) I'd love it if I went to St. Vincent Du Pauls and found a GE Porta-Color. Porta-Colors were made from 1966 to about 1983 and IIRC, even the ones in the early 1980's still used vacuum tubes although around 1977, there was a Porta-Color II that was all transistorized. At St. Vincents I did see a 1969 RCA Color console, 19 inch, if I had room and the money, I would have snatched it up. Well, if I ever get some time back, I still have a 1970 Zenith I hope to get back to working order as well as a 1980 RCA XL100 19" TV.
