Madonna Invites Pope To See Her Crucified On Stage
Star News ^ | August 4, 2006

MadonnaMadonna has invited Pope Benedict XVI to be the guest of honor at her Rome, Italy, Confessions concert on Sunday, which features the mock crucifixion of the singer. Religious leaders in Italy and The Vatican have united to publicly denounce the singer's controversial stage act, in which she is 'crucified' on a diamante-studded cross, while wearing a crown of thorns.

Ersilio Cardinal Tonino, speaking on behalf of The Pope, said yesterday, "This concert is a blasphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross. She should be ex-communicated. To crucify herself during the concert in the city of Popes and martyrs is an act of open hostility."

Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg tells the New York Daily News, "I think the Pope would enjoy the show and would applaud her performance. He has an open invitation to see for himself the eloquence and beauty that Madonna expresses for humanity while performing her poignant song 'Live To Tell.'"

Just ignore her. She'd hate that.

I think you are absolutely right, but this Italian Catholic is not at all amused.

She is. She admitted to her abortion in the past, and as far as can be determined, she has not repented of these most grevious sins.

As Eddie Murphy once said, "She wants to get on the hell express."

well to be perfectly honest, Jesus wasn't the only person that was crucified.so i don't view it as blasphemy. I see it as a statement more than anything. plus if you look at her career she has sold millions of records from being the one that pushes the envelope so to speak. and if it is sooo shocking that Madonna is doing this then perhaps people should look at other things that our society as a whole are doing.the senseless wars that we are involved in that mean absolutely nothing at all. the famine and poverty that is allowed to take place in our cultures. the epidemic of diseases that ravish our country but yet funding is cut to programs that would help or assist in research for those diseases. in my opinion there is alot more things to be shocked and outraged about then Madonna making a gesture on stage by crucifying herself. sometimes i feel like society and god has crucified me. KUDOS to Madonna for making an artistic statement once again. and for standing against the norm!

If you think it referred to some other crucifixion, I’ll sell you my oceanfront property in Barstow.

"Christ ministered to prostitutes. As a result,I could see where the Pope might accept this invitation."

I don't think that is the reason Madonna wants him to accept the invitation.

Then she could get loads of press and hype after all the death threats that the Muslims would give her.
