If her parents opposed the marriage so vehemently, how come they couldn't get a restraining order on Karr or something to keep the ceremony from taking place?

And who performed the ceremony?

This is in Alabama however it seems that 13 is too young in any state

A better question is, why did they agree to it. She was 13! Even in Alabama 22 years ago, she couldn't have married at 13 without her parents' consent.
