The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

As early as we can get out the door... I hate to give an estimate we'll fail at, but hopefully before 9?

Have fun at the beach! Seems a little cold for it but I guess you won't be swimming so who cares.

Rosie, have you been out to the Pacific yet?

Well...I have been, but not since I was three.

But the beach house isn't on the Pacific. What body of water would it be considered to be on, Hair? I should know this, but...

Up. showered, dressed, working on caffeination...

In the general sense, it's in Puget Sound. In the specific sense, it's on Hale's Passage.

We're up, got horses fed and stalls clean, working on getting dressed now. We'll try to be ready close to nine.

You shore did.

We spent a nice afternoon playing Xbox games and putting up more sheetrock. Slowly but surely the basement is getting into shape.

We got a late start today. We went over to some friends' house last night for pizza and beer. They are the couple whose kids ALL attended military academies. Their daughter was just in Iraq, and arrived back in Alaska last week. She was in the Stryker brigade that was held over for four months, so she's pleased to be back. She'll be home for Christmas, so we'll get to see her. Their oldest son is Commander of a group in the Persian Gulf monitoring those who have missles and might want to make mischief with them. ;o) Their youngest is in the Navy, training to be a Navigator.

They are interesting folks. Tom is a Vietnam vet; he was a helicopter gunship pilot. Susan is a Psychologist whose father's family emigrated from Hungary after the Russians took over. Their older kids were in the Science Club with our older two in middle school. Tom and all the kids are proud owners of Hobbit Hole knives!

Is there anybody in the group we missed? How about those still serving? We've got stuff other than knives that still need "closing out", and friends of the Hobbit Hole get first dibs on the stuff.

Nope, no one was missed. Tom and all three of the kids got knives. He and Susan are so proud of those kids. There was a picture of the three of them, all in their respective dress uniforms, in our local paper this past May when Bill graduated from the Naval Academy. So they have one from each, the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force. Tom was joking that the Air Force graduate is now serving on a ship, while the Navy guy is flying planes! The daughter is considering mustering out when her five years is up in June. She's thinking of going to Med. School.

Saw a really funny and poignant movie tonight. It's Cosi, and it's about a man trying to direct a performance of "Cosi Fan Tutte" in a mental institution. It's an Australian production, so you have to get used to the accents.

One of the patients came in for an audition, and did this foul mouthed rap thing, that was hilarious. I was staring at him because he looked SO familiar, but I just couldn't place him. I looked up the movie on IMDB, and the character was played by FARAMIR, David Wenham!! This movie was made in 1996, well before LOTR, and he was much slimmer than he was in LOTR, or maybe he just seemed heavier because of all those layers of clothing he was wearing in the movies!

I highly recommend the film, it was extremely funny and very sweet. Oh, and another character in the movie was played by Paul Chubb, who was in the Australian rock group, Men at Work.

How about a Hobbit Hole stocking stuffer of some Pelican high-intensity flashlights in the ever-popular "desert tan"? And any chance of getting hold of that picture from your local paper?
