Video glasses keep porn private in public
Thu Jan 11, 1:10 PM ET
LAS VEGAS, United States (AFP) - Sleek video glasses that turn film viewing into a private affair went on view at the world's biggest porn show on Wednesday, just after they were demonstrated down the road at the planet's largest consumer electronics show.
Victor Quitoriano of Body Care Resort coaxed passersby to shut out the bustling activity at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo by sampling an intimate video viewing session complete with audio through an ear piece.
He had been demonstrating models of the same glasses at the Consumer Electronics Show a short distance away in the Sands Exposition Center just a day earlier.
"Our technology crosses over," Quitoriano told AFP. "The videos we showed there weren't porn, because we didn't want to offend anybody."
"Here, it's different. Imagine you can take your porn all over the place; in a plane or a train, but not in the car unless you are the passenger."
The video glasses, made in Taiwan and sold by California-based Body Care, connected to all of the lasted video-playing devices from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game consoles to Apple's iPod and Microsoft's Zune MP3 players.
The model being shown off by Quitoriano carry a suggested retail price of 349 dollars (US) but were discounted for show-goers.
"The only competition I've seen is Sky Mall," Quitoriano said, referring to a gadget catalogue commonly found on the seatbacks on commercial airplanes.

I suppose it's too much to expect that he's watching "Timmy and Lassie" in there.
OTOH... naw. Too gross.

"Our technology crosses over," Quitoriano told AFP. Oh, they cross over alright.
Right over the line that separates good taste from slime.
But then, the porn industry crossed that line many years ago.

OR....you could use it in the privacy of your home and leave it there when you go out in public, like a civilized human being.

the ironic part of this to me is that I'm reading the article while listening to the Stephen Lynch song 'Lullaby'... (if you've ever heard it, you'd know why that's relevant)

In 2007 if you think of porn and "Timmy and Lassie" you get a very different picture.

Can you drive and watch at the same time?I once saw a guy driving a convertible with the top down on K Street in Washington DC at the height of the evening rush hour who had a video screen mounted in the middle of his front console. Playing on the video screen for all the world to see (and booming out of his speakers for all the world to hear) was a very X rated video. Some passers-by were laughing. Others were turning away in disgust. The driver was totally engrossed and totally oblivious.

I've seen similar scenes, with X-rated fare playing on in-car video systems. It's actually fairly common. Usually it's a big SUV but I've seen one minivan with shall we say very rhythmic action in play on its screen. So far my kids haven't noticed, though. Good thing-- in the early days of in-car video systems, they'd be riveted with envy. Today, shrug. That's fortunate.
I wish the politicians would quit beating on innocent cell phone usage and start doing something about porn pollution on the roads.

Might be hard to operate two stick shifts at the same time. Yes, but only in stop and go traffic. I shift quickly, so my hand doesn't stay for long on the decidedly smaller of the two shifters-- the gear. For highway cruising that's not a problem.
On the other hand, if I foresee I will do a lot of shifting in stop and go traffic, but not for changing gears, I take the Automatic.
