How's the cellphone service up there? What are the best companies? Is it better to keep the lower 48 plan for communicating with the folks at home? My kids are moving up there, and I need info so as to not freak out at the fact that they insist on taking my 3 yr old grandson with them! Parents!! Ungrateful kids, you'd think if someone offered to give you, the parents, a whole year off from raising the best little boy on the planet, you'd think they'd take me up on it, right????
So, I need help and info from locals, please. (Oh, I'm talking about the Fairbanks area)

I live in the Fairbanks area and I am still using my Verizon Phone. I get pretty good service, occasionally I lose service, but for the most part it works well.

So what Verizon plan are you on? Does Verizon think you're living in the lower 48 (I think that affects the rate plan?)? Don't be insulted by my questions, but do you have cable? I'm setting up our computers to Skype (oh, the things I have to learn how to do!) and I don't think it'd be worth it if the only connection is dial up.

Hot in the summer - very cold in the winter i.e. -70 tires freeze with flat spots. Great hot springs a few miles northeast.

Jimmy says where'er you go a good joke helps you fit in. If Mississippi wore a New Jersey then what would Delaware? Idaho, Alaska! You're a wonderful audience.
