Some reasons why you might be better off to wait for Vista SP1 or until you buy your next new PC.

Since I downloaded Internet Explorer 7, my computer is sometimes slow, even with my cable modem.
What is the best alternative to Internet Explorer? Is it easy to download?

In the FWIW category...
I was a little surprised to see here, as in so many other publications that receive so much Microsoft ad money, a pretty strong suggestion that Mac and the new Leopard might be much better for non-gamers than Vista.
I thought the reasons to wait for Vista SP1 and to see Leopard was pretty good advice for people considering new PCs.

It's good advise to ALWAYS wait for the first service pack on Windows products.

5. Windows XP Isn't Obsolete Exactly.
If you are a kid with money to blow and must have Vista and DirectX 10 for the new game Crysis, by all means, knock yourself out. For the rest of us, it will pay to wait (driver database, hardware issues, older favorite software incompatibilities etc).

Love Firefox!
I saw some striking numbers recently on how Firefox's installs keep increasing despite the new IE7 which, having blatantly stolen Firefox/Mozilla features like tabs and blacklisting and popup-blocking, still can't recapture those people who have moved to Firefox. Especially interesting was the national/regional breakdown. Germany, for instance, had over 40% of all browsers running Firefox. And that spells trouble for Microsoft. Serves them right for neglecting IE for so long.
I especially like Firefox's extensions. Stylish, Greasemonkey, Adblock, NoScript, etc. I need to spend some time finishing
my new extension for FreeRepublic and release it.

I have never understood what is the deal with operating system upgrades. For me there is not a dimes worth of differnce from Windows 98 to Windows XP. As long as applications run, who cares. The only thing that Vista will provide soon is the ability to add a cable card to your computer so you can easily record encrypted HD content to your hard drive.

I downloaded IE 7 and had all kinds of problems. I uninstalled it and the problems disappeared. The tabbed browsing is nice but not worth the problems. I will wait until they solve the problems.

Some reasons why you might be better off to wait for Vista SP1 or until you buy your next new PC.But I just bought an expensive new Dell laptop (D820) two months ago. I love it, by the way.

I hated to see IE overtake Netscape. Microsoft is notorious for stealing other people's ideas and forcing their products on to consumers.

I'm more worried about the professional spammers and phishers and botnet people.
Vista is initially more resistant to attacks. But if the criminals ever get under the hood and install and install their evil stuff in Vista, I think it will be much much harder to get rid of a rootkit, hijacker, virus or malware. If they take control of the new Windows Defender feature, well, I don't know what you'll be able to do. XP rootkits were horrible enough.
Perversely, some of Vista's new security features could make it far more insecure than XP is.

Sorry, I searched "Vista" and didn't find it.
