OK, let' say I want to post an article. How come sometimes I have the option "post" in the upper right hand corner and sometimes I don't?
Let me illustrate what I mean:
I want to post an article. I open FR and get this:
http://www.freerepublic.com/home.htm
OK, great. I can just hit post. But here is the problem, first I want to make sure that what I want to post hasn't bee posted yet. So I hit "threads", and I am here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/browse?ao=1
OK, great. I can post here if I want.. but I still haven't checked to see if my article has been posted yet. So I click "all of the above" to make sure that when I search I am searching the whole site. I get the following:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/browse
Hmm. The "post" option has magically disappeared! But that's ok for now. So, I type in the name of the article. Let's say it is "Ron Jeremy endorses Guiliani".
I get the following: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/search?m=all;o=time;s=Ron%20Jeremy%20endorses%20Giuliani
OK, Fantastic! Nobody has posted the story yet. Great. So I will post it. Well, guess what? I can't! There is no "post" button in the upper right hand corner. How come? What is FR without posts? Why can't I hit "post" whenever I feel like it?
So what do I do? Well, there is "forum" in the upper right corner. Great. I'll go to the forum. One must be able to post in the forum right?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/browse
Wrong! "post" is still not an option.
OK. So I will hit "threads". That will work, right? After all, earlier when I hit "threads" I got the option to post. So I hit threads:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/browse?ao=1
Nope. What is going on? I just want to post an article? Why is it so hard?
So, eventually, I just go to my bookmarks and startup FR again.
I just go back to the FR Home page
it's always there.
but I'm curious about this too
Wait a minute, Ron Jeremy endorsed Giuliani?????
Are you logged in?
I think you have to be logged in if you want to post a thread.
In order to actually post a thread you must select one of the forums at the upper right of the page, eg. http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/browse. Now there will be a post button and your post will go to the bloggers forum
--I have the "post" page bookmarked and positioned immediately blow my regular FR bookmark--just copy the headline in "search" and if it's not there, return to the article and copy it to the "post" page--
---aarrrgh--"blow"="below"
Yep, confusing at times. But I operate with several windows open one of which I'll use as a window to post the article, another the window in which the article I want to post is located, another in which I can search the forum to see if the article has been posted.
When I can't find that link, I just give up and post it at DU where they promptly delete it.
OMG, WTF? LOL
ROFL !!!
Thanks. I never figured that out. This was an educational thread.
So, it all goes back to that dark day when suddenly I couldn't just post and read articles, but had to subscribe or something.
;)
In this case, it's proper to ask ARE YOU LOGGED IN?
