I hesitate to start a thread like this...
My husband called me a little while ago to say that the sports guy on AM 1100 in Cleveland was breaking into Rush briefly to say that there are a ridiculous number of contrails over NE OH. My husband, who was driving at the time, said sure enough, dozens of them. Looking outside right now I can probably count at least 20 criss-crossing the sky. So anyway, the sports guy (Mike Trivisonno), who is doing his own show now, is spouting off about how "SOMETHING" must be going on, even though "officials" have told him that it's just prime atmospheric conditions that allow the contrails to be seen so well.
He's not buying it, is stirring up the listening audience, so how about some educated freepers tell me that in fact it is the atmosphere. I personally have never seen anything like it, and I don't own a single tin foil hat, I swear.
So when you're all out of the shower, any comments on this hugh and series event would be appreciated, thanks.
Please, please, PLEASE, oh please, NEVER hesitate to post a "contrails" story on FR. Some of us live for these things!
Seems I am providing an overdue public service. And I can identify with willgolfforfood's sentiment - I saw the albaby beeber thread unfold in real time. It was a marvelous sight to behold.
But are they chemical trails? It depends on who wants to know... Most people don't want to think they are anything but condensation.

I've seen contrails like that many times. Still alive (so far).
I think they look like an intentional dispersal. The trails are not vanishing properly as they spread (as they would if we were only dealing with upper level condensation).
Same here. I'm looking out my office window in Fairlawn, Ohio (about 20 miles south of the radio station making these claims) and I see some contrails but they don't appear at all out of the ordinary.
We will all see come the avian flu ...
I just went outside and had a look......right now there are 4 of them visible, all going due east, one probably over Detroit, the others are way further south.
It means it's gonna snow with in the next two days.
"Reports on TAM of military air traffic being scrambled, planes going straight UP like rockets, somebody sent e-mail saying that nothing has taken off or landed at Hopkins since noon, activity reported throughout N.E. Ohio to to Michigan."
This was on a real radio station? TAM?
I saw them as a kid in the mid 1980s.

I have the same question.....it's not space aliens, and I doubt that the govt is spraying us. I've wondered if it might be emissions or economy related additives to the jet fuel?
My Father-in-law told me they spray the skies all the time in Salt Lake City to help clear the area for jet traffic. Spraying isn't unheard of, by any means.

Me and my dad, a WWII warbird pilot, were watching a Twilight Zone episode—in the late 50s—where astronauts had lost communications during a launch and had landed on a barren, rock-strewn, planet. Through paranoia and the prospect of diminishing supplies, they managed to kill one another off until the remaining astronaut crawled to a ridge and found that they had landed back on Earth!
Before the final and revealing scene, my dad pointed to the "alien atmosphere" and said, "They have contrails on that planet too". Sure enough, they did!

4000 flights a day. This morning an hour or so before dawn a very long contrail "pierced" the moon, at least that's what it looked like. Pretty cool.
