The Hobbit Hole XXXIII - And the brook that leaps from hill to plain...

Posted on 03/08/2007 2:40:27 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Heh, that looks like Washington Square in Worcester. When I’m teaching the kids to drive, I make sure they drive through it at least once, just for the thrill inducement. ;o)

It truly is amazing the complexity one faces in dealing with elder care medical groups.

Got some Chainsaw 101 from Hair's Dad today. First we practiced by taking some slices off the end of a smallish log, while I got a feel for handling the saw.

Then on to a more advanced lesson, working with the bigger log that had gotten hung up between two trees. This was a good exercise for understanding the physics involved, and knowing which direction things are going to go when cut loose.

And we even finished with all toes intact. :)

That's a fractal roundabout. Roundabouts within roundabouts. Is there a big sign posted with a diagram so you can study it before you drive through it?

We have a couple around here. The radius is so tight, a semi will take up all three lanes going through it.

I would hope so, but even with that, it would be a challenge figure out in 3-D. If they ever build one of them around here, we're moving.

Got to be one of the most practical uses for a good working knowledge of the forces on a static object. Sure it ain’t moving, but it’s gonna, and your gonna wanna know which way it’s gonna go.

Imagine when we have floating cars. Traffic circles will be spheres, depth will make things 8 times as complicated, and people will still chat on their cell phones while driving.

I do think though that in a country like Great Britain where traffic circles are so common, it wouldn’t be too hard. Like if you learn to drive somewhere that only has, say, three-way intersections, the first time you encountered a five-way would be tricky but you’d know what was going on pretty much.

Wouldn’t be a bad thing to have on the bed-side table... Someone breaks in during the night... it might make a better sound in the dark than a shotgun even. ;~)

You have to get close to use it.... but who’s gonna get close?

Good job! Stihl is a good make, I believe. Here’s hoping I won’t find any use for mine this summer.

Hmmm, would need an attached tactical flashlight and laser sight. Or better yet nightvision goggles, the ones that glow in the dark.
