Ya know,I'm older than most of the showbiz types out there and I've never been arrested. Not once.Am I doing something wrong here? Is it me who's leading a dull, boring, uneventful life?

Or are far too many of today's "entertainers" filthy, worthless pieces of excrement?

Well, thank goodness, at least, that he didn't have his spotted dick in his hand at the time.

Hugh Grant is moving up in the world. Pretty good behavior since his prostituion-related arrest in 1995. Now he’s just throwing baked beans.

I’ll go out on a limb and say he’s improving greatly.

If he continues to keep his pants and wallet closed at the same time, and stops the food fights, he’ll be completely redeemed in no time.

My suggestion is: start setting up chafing dishes outside his home, let the papparazzi and prostitutes help themselves, then sneak out while they’re napping.

How often are you hounded by paparazzi photographers ?

A camera in unfriendly hands can be a weapon that destroys careers for these people. They make a living off their image, so when it is stolen or presented in an unflattering way, it costs them.

A paparrazi is really just a mugger of celebrities. It should be outlawed. What Hugh did should be dismissed as self defense.

Celebrities should be left alone unless they are attending a public event where they’ve been given notice and can prepare.

I feel sorry for them getting their pictures taken so much. I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the profession they have chosen and million$ that go along with it. If its that bad, there is always McDonalds.

It should be outlawed.

Perhaps it should be and perhaps it shoudn't.But it's legal today so showbiz types should get used to it or get out of the business.

And if he threw this, he'd have to spend a lot of time in rehab.

Actors and actresses do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy ? They agreed to have their lives on display 24/7 ? An actor is paid for his performance on stage or screen — at least that’s what I pay for when I buy a movie ticket. I couldn’t care less about their private lives — in fact, I’d rather not know, because it interferes with immersion in and enjoyment of their films.

If paparazzi stalked you or I the way they do celebrities, we would demand the police and courts stop it. The “public life” aspect of a celebrity results in police and courts only acting on the most egregious examples of stalking. Nobody was paying Hugh Grant for the photos that paparazzi took, therefor the paparazzi was attempting to steal something of value.

And give the Marxist claptrap a break. This is Free Republic. How much money someone makes for doing one thing has no bearing on anything else — especially how they deserve to be treated by society. Just because somebody makes a lot of money doesn’t mean they forfeit their right to privacy. Next you’ll be spouting off about how he should pay higher taxes or higher fines for his actions “because he makes a lot of money and can afford it” !

This guy sounds more normal that many others in Florida. A while back another dentist in Florida operated out of his car. Floridians elected the creepy Crist for governor who is into death. A mother lost her biological child, or maybe two children, to another woman who claimed to be a man and their father - something that was impossible.

The fact that photographers are constantly following famous showbiz types strongly suggests to me that its legal,as spelled out by applicable Federal and state laws.Should it be legal? I,frankly, have no opinion on the matter.

Perhaps showbiz types can get together and lobby the California legislature and/or the US House and Senate to remedy the situation.

And,for the record, when *I* hear the word "stalker" I think of a scumbag husband or boyfriend and a woman...not some guy with a $5,000 Nikon.

Give me a break. These people's lives are all about their image and getting their name and photo out there. Again, if they don't like it, they can try another job; and within months nobody would even care what they are doing. There is absolutely no excuse for him to kick the guy in the nuts. Go find another shoulder to cry on, there is no sympathy here.

A good kick in the nuts is the least a mugger should expect.

Well, this incident happened in London, so legislation in the US won’t help Hugh Grant.

You are correct that it is “legal”. It is actually a special case the law recognizes for people that have a “public life”, where they are not entitled to the same level of privacy you or I could demand the police and courts enforce.

Obviously, I do not think it should be legal. Or, if they are going to strip celebrities of legal rights to privacy, the celebrity should be legally immune for actions to defend their privacy themselves — as Hugh Grant did, or by sicking their bodyguards on the paparazzi, etc.

To me, a stalker is anyone that tries to impose on your privacy when they are aware their attention is unwelcome.

Standing around outside someone’s home and waiting for some opportunity to surprise them while they are just going about their daily home life is perverted. This is not like taking pics of someone walking down a red carpet at the Oscars where they have had time to prepare their public persona — this is their life at home, where they should be entitled to have a bad day, crappy mood, toothache, sweaty, and dirty without seeing it splashed on some tabloid.

If the only thing this guy really did was ask Hugh Grant to smile for him I doubt very much this incident would have taken place. What these people want isn’t a smiling celebrity. They want them enraged, caught off guard, at their worst. That’s where they get the money. I just wonder what comment this Ian Whittaker actually said to Hugh Grant to set him off.
