Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400

Richmond International Raceway

Welcome all to the the Nextel Cup race at Richmond International Raceway!

Since the first race in Richmond in 1953, the track has undergone three name changes, four configuration changes and one surface change, from dirt to asphalt.

Lights were also added to the facility in 1991. RIR is the only track to hold all of its major events under the lights.

Richmond's unique, .75-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and banging that fans love, with the drivers' skill playing a major role.

The track's fall date is now the final race leading up to the 10-race Chase for the NextelCup.

Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 at RIR is named after Jim Stewart from Houma, Louisiana, The winner of an essay contest sponsored by Crown Royal during the festivities leading up to the 2007 Daytona 500.
As guest of honor, Stewart will wave the green flag to start the race, as well as participate in the check and trophy presentations to the race winner in Victory Lane.
Crown Royal judged the finalists based on written and video submissions chronicling consumers' favorite "Crown-Worthy" moments, which is defined as a memorable moment or occasion deemed "worthy" of toasting with a Crown Royal cocktail in a responsible manner. Stewart's winning entry chronicled his moments growing up fishing with his father and later christening his own fishing boat with a toast to his father.

Prediction: Jefff Gordon won’t win this week. Either Kurt Busch or Dale Jr. will win!

If you'd like ON or Off the Nascar at FR racing threads&stuff Ping List, let me know via Private Reply. Thanks!

This is not a High Volume Ping List and is intended primarily to alert folks of the posting of the weekly Nascar qualifying and race threads.

Occasional sports or military or prayers Pings using the list may also be sent as situation or subject dictates.

Profanities, flame wars and belligerence in observing common sense rules and family decency standards on the thread may result in serious sanctions so be nice. :-)

Doesn’t Dale still have one chamionship exemption? Anyway, I think Waltrip is close to qualifying on speed. He just missed it last week. I’m going out on a huge limb here and predicting they’re both in the race!

I’ll have to check, but I think Dale used his last provisional Yes, Mikey did pretty well, but he has to beat both the cars with <35 in owners points and the others who have to race their way in.

I’m sticking by my prediction! I seem to remember the Fox guys saying Dale had one more to go but I could be wrong.

Dang! Just googled Dale and he is indeed out of provisionals. Rats! Anyway, I’m sticking by my prediction that Dale and Mikey both make the field.

Oh, and Gordon won’t win and either Kurt Busch or Dale Jr win. That’s my prediction.
