Married in the morning, arrested in the evening

KEY WEST — From wedded bliss to a violent scuffle in a gas station parking lot — maybe this Tallahassee couple will have a more enjoyable honeymoon than wedding day.

According to reports, the new bride told officers that the couple had just gotten married that day, Wednesday, and were out celebrating. According to witnesses, the new husband hit his wife, verbally abused her, and then dragged her around the parking lot of Citgo gas station on North Roosevelt Boulevard.

Several people, including store employees, told police that the woman was standing next to the car and having trouble putting her shoes on. An off-duty deputy told officers he saw the man grab the woman and throw her against the side of the car with an audible thud. According to reports, both newlyweds were unsteady on their feet and appeared drunk.

When officers arrived and spoke with the alleged battered bride, she reportedly told them her new husband didn't mean to touch her and that he didn't hurt her, he had just grabbed her on the neck. That's when she informed officers that it was their wedding day and they were out celebrating, reports said.

Officers detained the husband, arrested him on charges of domestic battery, and he spent his wedding night in the Monroe County jail, presumably not consummating his marriage.
