We Were Soldiers

Posted on 07/05/2007 7:45:30 AM PDT by MrJapan

Vanity?!?

TOPICS: TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: weweresoldiers
Watched this movie for the first time tonight... Thought it was a good movie, but I had never had an officer act in the same respect as Mel Gibson did, as an officer, did in the movie. I have been in the Air Force and the Army, although I have only been in 1 war (Desert Shield/Storm)... and it was in the AF...

I just want the opinions of the people who served during the Vietnam war as to how true this movie was... My father was a Navy Seal in the 'Nam war... but would never tell me anything.. besides the fact he was wounded twice and couldn't get a purple heart because it "never happened"... All I know is that he entered (Navy) in 1963 and left it in 1967.

How true (and close to the real thing) is this movie (film to the brits)?

I remember reading somewhere (when the film was originally released, so I can’t recall where) that the producers of the film were rather assiduous with regard to technical matters.

The movie deviates in only a few instances from the book and this was for dramatic effect.

Overall, a very accurate picture of airmobility in the early stages of the Vietnam War.

I served in in the 1st Cav and 4th Infantry in the same AO’s the film covered and felt that the job the producers/director/actors did was very realistic.

I flew helicopters over there and only two movies have had much effect on me - “Apocalypse Now” (only the helicopter scenes - the rest was crap) and “We Were Soldiers”.

FYI, The latest article posted by Aloha Ronnie in #21 gives a new perspective on what transpired at LZ Falcon that day. When you read it, you can imagine the corresponding scene in the We Were Soldiers movie, but now you know about the other end of the shells' flight path. it also highlights the innovation of the airmobile concept, and how commanders can make a positive (LZ X-ray) or negative (LZ Albany) difference. It is a good way to refresh your memory about what transpired those few days so long ago and far away.

PS Watch for the link at Aloha Ronnie's Web site. If you visit encyclopedia.com, be sure to disable JavaScript first to avoid a misbehaving advert.

Our 21st Century duty, now that we have these effective CLARITY tools of the Internet, massive Conservative Talk Radio and the Fox News Channel...

And then to make sure they don’t succeed again with their Anti-Freedom agenda in Iraq..?

NEVER FORGET

As a Radioman-Driver-Orderly to then Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE, while in 1965’s then Free South Vietnam’s Central Highlands, I was stunned to witness first hand that there really is such a thing as HATE in this world. And people out there who hate the FREE for ..simply being FREE.

http://www.lzxray.com/guyer_set1.htm

I have since seen directly that LOVE is indeed the Only Reality and GOD is LOVE. And that the one thing The LOVE Itself needs more of in this world is ..more LOVE.

And that only comes when people ..are FREE..!!!

Making soldiers who so selflessly sacrifice to bring more FREEDOM, and thus more LOVE, to the world ..and their loved ones who wait for them to come home or not ..HOLY in GOD’s Eyes.
Bringing a broad smile to His Face in the process.

FREE-ing up people to be all that they already are in GOD’s Eyes and all that they can be while here on the Planet Earth.

‘It’s WHO YOU ARE’ is sung at the ending of Director RANDALL WALLACE’s 2010 Motion Picture “SECRETARIAT.” RANDALL wrote the song’s words. He also wrote the stirring words to the ‘MANSIONS of the LORD’ hymn, which is sung at the ending of his 2002 Motion Picture “WE WERE SOLDIERS.” For in life, it’s not what you have that counts. ‘It’s WHO YOU ARE.’

http://mommylife.net/archives/2010/1...ariat_the.html

‘MANSIONS of the LORD’ went on to become publically known as ‘The REAGAN RECESSIONAL’ as well. For it was stirringly sung by the Marine Corps Choir as President RONALD REAGAN’s flag draped casket was being carried out from his Washington, D.C. funeral for flight back to his REAGAN Presidential Libary final resting place. This hymn was to be soon heard by tour guests as they leave the Library ..forever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WDrbbtaO0E

For President RONALD REAGAN was as much a soldier standing on the front line fighting for the FREEDOM of others, as we soldiers who were physically putting our own lives on the line out there.

Lt. Colonel Hal Moore: I can't promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear, before you and before Almighty God, that when we go into battle, I will be the first to set foot on the field, and I will be the last to step off, and I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together. So help me, God
