Vanity?!?
I just want the opinions of the people who served during the Vietnam war as to how true this movie was... My father was a Navy Seal in the 'Nam war... but would never tell me anything.. besides the fact he was wounded twice and couldn't get a purple heart because it "never happened"... All I know is that he entered (Navy) in 1963 and left it in 1967.
How true (and close to the real thing) is this movie (film to the brits)?
I remember reading somewhere (when the film was originally released, so I can’t recall where) that the producers of the film were rather assiduous with regard to technical matters.
The movie deviates in only a few instances from the book and this was for dramatic effect.
Overall, a very accurate picture of airmobility in the early stages of the Vietnam War.
I served in in the 1st Cav and 4th Infantry in the same AO’s the film covered and felt that the job the producers/director/actors did was very realistic.
I flew helicopters over there and only two movies have had much effect on me - “Apocalypse Now” (only the helicopter scenes - the rest was crap) and “We Were Soldiers”.
Welcome to FR. Hope you are serious about this because you are about to get the straight scoop.
Thank you for your comments... They are very well taken ;)
Ive never watched a vietnam movie where the soldiers acted like gentlemen and werent all on doped up on drugs.
“We were soldiers...” was awesome.
Do yourself a favor and read the book next :)
I really enjoyed that.

What the Battle of IA DRANG-1965 heroes were fighting hard to prevent from ever having to see come to be,
...but tragically did after a post-WATERGATE Democrat Congress cut off all funding for South Vietnam’s fight for its own Freedom, were:

Only this time it’s our own Freedom that’s directly at stake right here at home.
