NEW YORK -- Roger Clemens was booed off the mound Thursday after he allowed eight runs and nine hits in the second inning of the Yankees' game against the Chicago White Sox.

Only three of the runs were earned. Second baseman Robinson Cano mishandled Jerry Owens' grounder near the bag with one out, and Clemens threw out Darin Erstad at the plate on Alex Cintron's dribbler, but the next four batters all got hits off Clemens before manager Joe Torre replaced him.

Sox Ping

Gabbard was better for the Sox than Rogah has been for the Yankees.

Race is down to 54 games with the Sox ahead by 8. The Yanks gotten their act in gear the past two months while the Sox have been a few games better than .500. I think the Sox take the division if they go 30-24. Yanks would have to go 39-15 which is a .722 winning %. That looks like it would be hard to do espcially since they have a bunch of games to play with Detroit, the Angels, Cleveland and Seattle and not to mention 6 against the Sox, 9 against Baltimore and 10 against Toronto.

Yanks are still in the hint for the WC though. Looks like the race is going to be a good one for the rest of this year. Sox need some intensity to keep them playing good ball.

I’d be more worried about tampa bay, seems both the sox and yanks don’t fare so well against them sometimes.

Eight runs scored and only three of ‘em earned? Brutal. Booing a feller for that is worse.

The unearned runs came from the fact that he couldn’t get another out and he kept letting men get on base and scoring.

At home they seem to do okay. They have a few decent to good starters, they certainly have speed and they can hit home runs. Their pen is just terrible though. The Yankees just killed them last week.

I believe a walked batter counts as an earned run. One on base by virtue of an error does not. I'm a long way from being a Clemens fan but booing any player off the field is cold, really cold, especially at home.

That said, I was there the first time A-Rod visited Seattle after turning coat. Couldn't talk right for two days after. Sweet.

Anyone that gets on base and scores after the third should have been made doesn’t count as an earned run I believe. Hey, he was up in the zone, couldn’t throw a split and Chicago was on his stuff. What this article doesn’t talk about was how the Yanks blew John Garland out of the game as well in the bottom half of the inning.

Ugly, ugly game today.

Yeh. Pity Rog never pitched like that against us. Oh, well - watched my team blow a 3-run lead in the 9th last night. They did win, but...ugh...

Do you suppose that Boston.com might have a little bias about a Yankees game involving Clemons?
