Maybe his steroids didn’t kick in today.

the sox did the right thing with gabbard by trading him when his stock was at its highest, and clemens by only offering him what they think he was worth. they did the same thing to damon.

yeah im always doing those “if the sox play .600 ball...” scenarios too, haha. and dont forget the yankees, if they had the wild card spot, would have to play the angels in the ALDS, and you know what that means.

I think that with the pitching talent that they have coming up it was worth it. Gagne gets them 2 picks in the next draft within the top 45 and that’s good stuff for 2011 and 2012. Same for Mike Lowell if they let him go. I expect that they will be active in the free agent market next year so their draft pick goes away.

Damon is now a platoon player with the Yanks and was shopped at the deadline. We now have a gold glove caliber CF who steals more bases than Damon and is starting to develop his own game. And, he’s about 60% of the cost over the course of the contract.

The Yanks did okay in their last series vs the Angels and the Angels also didn’t do anything to get another bat which would have made them very dangerous.

It would be a repeat of 2002, not that that’s a bad thing.

in all honesty, expect a .550 performance from the red sox from now on.

If the Sox do that they get to 96 wins which should get them into the postseason. If they don’t make it it’s because the Yankees played .722 ball over their last 54 games and that’s on top of the 37-20 record that they have put up since June 1st.

I think that’s right — a strange exception is that if a new pitcher comes in and gives up additional runs — above and beyond what was on base already — count as earned runs against the pitcher but not against the team.

Did Clemens get any seasoning before this latest comeback?

I recall Tom Seaver giving it a try at AAA Tidewater — he got knocked around pretty handily and decided to not come back to the majors.

Clemens will turn 45 tomorrow (I’m 45 now but I make a bit
less money that he does). Amazing he’s still on the mound or better yet amazing he could trick George into shelling out
$28 million/yr for him. Oh my, oh my goodness gracious as
Suzyn Waldman would say (in her Yankee-gasm upon Roger’s
announcement he’d be returning to the pinstripes).

I saw Mets at Shea Sunday while visiting NYC (a rain-shortened win). I guess the Yanks are still selling some tickets because there was a sign at a Yankees clubhouse shop nr Times Sq.
saying the next few weeks, incl. Boston series, were sold
out. But do they have the over 360+ straight sellouts
Fenway has had?

I did hear of Clemens’ bad performance yesterday—the Yanks
did come back with 8 runs in the next frame to tie it
but still lost ultimately to the fading White Sox.

"Yanks are still in the hint for the WC though. Looks like the race is going to be a good one for the rest of this year. Sox need some intensity to keep them playing good ball."

Sox bats need to wake up, the pitching looks good but you have to score more than 1 run to win most games.

The Yankees have to keep hitting the ball since their pitching look worse than ever.

"Do you suppose that Boston.com might have a little bias about a Yankees game involving Clemons?

I suppose they do considering its owned by the NY Times, I mean Slimes. They must have doctored the AP release and video to make it appear that he was being booed...not to mention planting the same in the NY papers.

Roger has been a servicable 4th/4th starter for them. He’s pitched some really good games and not not so good ones. I know he could have gotten out of yesterday’s bad inning with one more play but then again, he didn’t get another out so that’s sort of on him. I think this has to be his last year though. He’s not worth the money he is being paid and if all he can get is $10-12 million next year he’s not likely to come back that greedy SOB.

Considering he's being paid on the order of $28 million, pro-rated, for just over half a season, wow, what deal . . .

Oh, yeah. Wish I could have been there. They teased us with the notion that he might be traded back but I don't think it was ever that serious - Cincy would want the moon and rightfully so.

Lots of baseball left. The M's have three with the Red Stockings beginning tonight. Play ball!

He’ll be 45 tomorrow.

He’s won 7 Cy Young awards. It may be about time to retire, but he’s accomplished quite a bit more than most of those who boo’ed him.

If he wore a cotton uniform, he might pitch better.

He'll be fired soon.

Steinbrenner fires people like it's a bodily function.

Maybe he should bring him a calzone for lunch every day.
