Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Good morning!
Hey! Who moved the thread?
Ping! Over here!
Do we have email service over here?
Heh... Don’t be picky! I’m just glad I didn’t end up with the Saddle club graphic on this one and vice-versa!
If you still loved us, you’d just post one thread.
Steve got an email from these guys with an application, the voluntary affirmative action form, and a consumer report release form attached.
I understand the app and the AA form, but not the consumer credit report form. Any thoughts?
He's going to the vet today, to renew his Thyroid prescription and find out what's entailed with that.
Lots of places want to do credit checks as part of screening applicants. I don’t like it.
Howdy.
He probably just needs more salmon in his diet.
I’ve heard that a lot of places are doing that sort of thing... not usually places I’d think Steve would work, though, mostly places like banks where there’s exposure of money. They want people who presumably won’t be tempted to take some home.
That is odd. I didn’t mind the drug test but I might object to the credit release. Call them and say you don’t want inquiries showing up against your credit because you’ve heard that can lower the score.
We’ll have to take all the good rooms while Corin’s on hold.
Whoa...no warning! Eek!
Well...I made it to drop off the van and then to work from there.
Rosie’s Credit Card Death Watch is on...waiting to hear an estimate . *gulp*
Do you need a ride tonight?
I was going to post a pic of the mooning smilie.
But, of course I’ve got that uploaded to my Comcast account...
Wow, these threads actually do have a beginning.
Can I let you know by two or so?
If’n it isn’t raining much and if I can leave a little early (may be able to), I may be able to ride back, too. But otherwise...I’d really appreciate a ride!
I’d owe ya pizza or something. ;-)
What the... [bang shin] Ouch! All the furniture is all moved around.
He is a very big loss. Very sad indeed.
I got rid of Comcast in 2005, now I use SBC for $15 a month.
“I understand the app and the AA form, but not the consumer credit report form. Any thoughts?”
They can figure out your debt load and make an offer based on what you need to pay your bills. Kind of a crappy way to make an offer, IMO.
Um... it’s not going to rain much... just overcast... maybe a little “misting”. :~)
Just let me know. :~)
I’m on hold with someone who says he can help me.
He’s far too chatty for my personal preferences.
Washington has too many forms of rain...it’s hard to keep track. When I see a rain cloud on the little forecast thingie, I assume rain. ;-) I’ll adjust, really I will...
I’ll post once I have the estimate and all.
Yah, I’ve heard of that... running credit checks as part of the new hire process. I believe you can blame Mr. Sarbanes and Mr. Oxley for that one.
It’s a bad thing. Credit records are wildly inaccurate. I’ve read estimates that anywhere from 1/3 or more of all records in credit agencies’ data is wrong. I don’t see the point of using it for any sort of decision. Whether to hire or, for that matter, whether to grant credit.
What's rain, precious?
Midwest in August = drought. On the good side, fewer West Nile infected mosquitoes mean the blue jays are finally coming back!!
They say the local tribes used to have dozens of different words for different kinds of rain. Same for snow.
‘course... they only have one word for Casino. :-)
NW in August is usually dry too... it’s weird to even have this overcast. It’s been a rather odd summer. We don’t usually get rain at all in July or August.
On the bright side, it’s been far cooler this summer than it was last.
We had a big storm yesterday and I expected another today... it was way humid earlier but now it’s sunny so who knows.
I don’t like it either.
Bothers me. Sends up red flags about the company.
If it’s a Sarbanes Oxley thing, they may not have a choice, right Ramius?
On the other hand, if they’re doing it voluntarily just to be nosy, I wouldn’t apply there.
Posting from work, which is a rare thing... usually the post function is blocked.
Well good morning! Post while you can :~)
Well...Jr. got a job working at a sporting goods store.
So, there’s that.
Nice!!
I wouldn’t say that it reflects much of anything about the company. My company ran a credit check on me 17 years ago, though that was for an accounting position. I think we do it to everybody now.
In looking at their website, they’re private, not publicly held so it isn’t SOX. It’s some hotshot MBA in the HR department that heard about the technique in one of his classes and talked the VP into it.
On hold still?
I’m working on getting into a class this fall. I still have two for my masters’... it would be good to get them done but I am not sure I have enough time before the start. Fingers crossed...
No, I finally got through to a tech support person in Baltimordor, who said that yesterday the Mrs. was talking to someone in Canada. He promised to call back with the fix within the half hour.
His time is almost up.
Hobbitses and everyone else!
*pictures what might happen if Jack Bauer ever needed tech support from anyone besides Chloe*
Here too, actually. Thru the beginning of last August we'd had 40 days over 90 degrees, while we only had 10 over 90 this year. It's been cool enough that the yard still looks pretty good, so I've had to start watering to keep it looking nice. It would have been easier on the pocketbook if it had burned up in July like it normally does.

We're on our way to 97-100 today. Ungh. At least the humidity is only 45%. Another *lovely* day in MD. *snork*
Just make sure they spell your last name correctly. Way back when I’d been working for a couple of years, even though we had credit accounts at a couple of places, like Sears, etc. I went to apply for a credit card. It seemed to be taking a long time to hear about the approval so I called the bank. The person I talked to said the application was denied. When I asked why, she said it was because they couldn’t find any verification of the credit we said we had. I asked her to spell the last name she was using to do the search. Sure enough, she had put an ‘e’ where there is none in our name. I corrected her and told her to run it again. In a couple of days, we had the card.
*wonders how they could misspell Suzi’s last name*
That was my first job in high school, too. I didn't care too much about bowling balls, baseball bats, or fishing gear, so I stayed around the gun department (they all had them, then). I knew more than everyone else in the department put together, so they made record sales in the gun department when I was there.
Really? You have an interest in guns? ;-)
He actually applied there last year before he went to King's Dominion. But he had to be 18 to work there.
