I have a question. On a number of occasions, Rush and other conservatives have said that following 9/11, liberals were bemoaning the fact that it didn't happen on Clinton's watch because then his handling of it would be his legacy. It would be a chance for him to look good.
I've done countless Google searches and can find nothing. Can anyone point me to specific examples? Thanks.
I haven’t heard of this before, but I doubt it. As execrable as liberals are they aren’t dumb enough to have said something like that within miles of a microphone anytime soon after 9-11
Actually, I remember this pretty well, but it wasn’t “liberals” per se, but news commentators (same thing, I know).
You should be able to find a few links. It was something talked about quite a bit at the time.
“Google China” has problems finding some facts too:
For example, look at Tiananmen Square tank:
as opposed to the US site:
I definitely remember it .. he was reportedly pouting about what he could’ve done as a wartime president. His legacy was and is an obsession.
Here’s an article that deals a bit with it.

We know exactly what Clinton would have done. Apart from the scale of 9 11 there were plenty of attacks during his watch. Clinton’s response was to get blow jobs from Monica and send the odd cruise missile.
I remember the letters to Kos and DU at the time bemoaned the fact there wasn’t a Democrat president at the helm for 9/11. But that gets back to the Gore thing, and most liberals were still immersed in extreme grief and self-loathing.
Google searches ARE bad. I was able to find a couple threads on FR using Clinton and Greatness in a headline search of the archive...
And do NOT post extensive quotes from the article in this thread, SF Examiner articles must be excerpted on FR.

“LUCKY THOUGH he was, Bill Clinton never had his shot at greatness. He could lower the jobless rate, balance the budget, console us after the Oklahoma City bombing. But he never got the opportunity George W. Bush was given this Tuesday: the historic chance to lead.”

Also Mia T has provided references to other key Clinton quotes with citations:
example
“I would have preferred being president during World War II” he said one night in January 1995. “I’m a person out of my time.”

Good find, weegee! Best that these sorts of things not get lost down the memory hole ...
