Scientists identify stem cells in tendons

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. scientists have discovered stem cells in adult tendons can regenerate tissue -- a finding that promises new treatments for tendon injury and disease.

A consortium of scientists that included University of Southern California School of Dentistry researcher Songtao Shi identified unique cells within the adult tendon that have stem-cell characteristics -- including the ability to proliferate and self-renew.

The researchers were able to isolate the cells and regenerate tendon-like tissue in an animal model.

"Clinically, tendon injury is a difficult one to treat, not only for athletes, but for patients who suffer from tendinopathy such as tendon rupture or ectopic ossification," Shi said. "This research demonstrates that we can use stem cells to repair tendons. We now know how to collect them from tissue and how to control their formation into tendon cells."

The study, led by Yanming Bi of the National Institutes of Health, is to appear in the October issue of the journal Nature Medicine and is currently available online at the journal's Web site.

The purpose for stem cell research is to give moral justification to abortion. All of these scientists finding uses for adult stem cells are failing their political duties. < /sarcasm which goes to 11>

“Curses, adult stem cells again!”
(Probably said by some ESC/cloning evangelists I know at a local
research university)

Gad, I get tired of reposting this about once a week.
Sometimes more often.
(/SARC)

I admit that ESCs may yet yield a plethora of cures/treatments.
But so far, my expert witness is the fellow that was the interim director
of California’s stem-cell/cloning project (the one funded by a vote
of CA taxpayers to spend copious amounts of taxpayer dollars...
in a de facto bankrupt state).

The interim director said in his “farewell address” that
it might be 10-15 years before ESCs yield any sort of treatment.

(This was hidden in the Business section of The Los Angeles Times
when the interim director was wisely returning to his
tenured post in academia).

He might as well have said “Thanks, Suckers!”.

Perfect!

All of these scientists finding uses for adult stem cells are failing their political duties.

Their slack is taken up by a dutiful media who either:
A. Doesn't report the success at all.
B. Reports the success but misconstrues the success as being linked to embryonic stem cells.
or
C. Reports the success, but buries it so deep that well over 99% of the public is completely unaware of it.

Is this a quiz?

A. Doesn’t report the success at all.

I think the generally do that until the news leaks out and then they resort to a combination of B and C.

But NEVER, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, do they admit that embryonic stem cell research has been a TOTAL FAILURE.

I know you are absolutely right, but it is amazing the number of people who've been hood-winked by the DBM. But, as the man said, "The purpose for stem cell research is to give moral justification to abortion."

And they will not stop.
