I think Torchwood finally has a good episode yesterday and FYI Torchwood is also being shown in HD on the HD station, I think it's just called HDNET and I saw an advert for BBC America HD coming in '08! Here's the HDNet schedule. Everything is better in HD even the first episode of Torchwood.
I agree with you about Enterprise, it was a very good show and you are probably right that Voyager killed the franchise, though I tuned in every week, first for that cute blond girl and then for 7 of 9. But I think Voyager jumped the shark very early on when they bring in Amelia Earhart in the second or third episode. The fuzzy guy was annoying too.
I've started watching Babylon 5 on DVD and that show is great. I forget how great it was, I think. Much slower pace then, like BSG, but more substantive, I think.
I especially like the use of dreams and prophecy to advance the story and flesh out characters. And then there's Kosh, who could forget Kosh?
Eureka is running a marathon Tuesday starting at 9 AM. Set your TiVO or VCR.
Thanks!!!!!
I think for me the big episode was Severed Dreams because it was a busy time in my life and I could only half-pay attention to TV at the the time but suddenly I’m watching Severed Dreams and what the whole show is about comes to me suddenly.
Right now I just finish Signs and Portents, which if I was maybe paying 3/4’s attention during the first season, that would be the one to get my attention but I miss most of them the first season and the ones I did catch were like the Soul Hunter and Believers which strike me as more Star Trek-type episodes at the time.
I guess I re-watch the first 3 seasons when they come to DVD but then I don’t complete the collection until a few weeks ago so I start again and watching it with fresh eyes, knowing the ending, it is interesting to watch the characters develop and it is amazing how fleshed out the show and the characters were right at the start.
Severed Dreams was a awesome episode..
Voyager was a strange show. I never really understood where it was going. That and the fact that every doggone episode had something to do with the holideck. Geez, if I was capt and my holideck caused me that much trouble, I would have blown it out of the freakin airlock.
Well, as I recall, it did produce the line “Get this cheese to sick bay!” so it wasn’t a total loss.
I notice you don’t have Journeyman listed, which stars Lucius Vorenus from Rome. I thought the first episode was pretty good. The only way it could be better is if Titus Pullo shows up LOL.
Well when is Journeyman is on and what time??
It follows Heroes on Monday on NBC.
Now you see why I post SciFi shows weekly.......
If you miss the first episode, it is available online, I think, on NBC somewhere. I’m not a big fan of watching shows on my computer though so I don’t know for sure.
Enterprise was good TV. It died an early death.
Especially Season 4..... I think that people was just Trekked out.
The Journeyman follows Heroes, the last week opened with a first episode. So far so good.
Also, before the Heroes they came up with Chuck - a likable goofus that had stuff from the super-duper CIA/NSA computer sent to him by his old friend who became a rogue CIA agent and e-mailed! all! info coded in images a millisecond before he was killed. So, now he is slowly learns how to retrieve it and use. He was hunted down and now guarded by a gorgeous super-ninja CIA agent who looks like likes him and a mean NSA agent who is subtle as a tank. More of the mean bosses are looming on background, of course. Most of the CIA/NSA bosses are always bad, don’t ya know?. There are few things reminding Jake 2.0. mostly in a likable goofiness of the main character. Anyway it sounds on the level of the 5th grade (besides sexy CIA super agent) or a permanent geek living in the mom’s basement (in case of Chuck - he lives with his older sister), but the execution was good and the first episode was quite watchable.
"Dances with Seven of Nine?"
Voyager had its moments, but as a whole, I just never thought it worked... It had its ups and downs. I actually liked Neelix, and had a major crush on Kess. And the Doctor was great. There were some episodes that were really great, most were "so-so," and more than just a few were real stinkers.
My favorite episodes were the ones involving "Species XXXX" (can't remember the number, but they were the ones who beat the crap out of the Borg). I especially liked Ray Walston as the chief bad guy.
And I thought that Enterprise was starting to get really good when they decided to cancel it. As with any new series, it took a full season for it to "get on its feet." But I thought that it really had promise. And it showed the Vulcans in a totally new light. Though there was a serious "Voyager influence, in the Vulcan woman's appearance (Jolene Blalock): It seems that she had a pair of close encounters with a Horta. After the cancellation was announced, the show went to hell. Especially the final episodes, with the "Alternate Universe."
