Big Pharma and Big Brother join forces to drug children (April 2007)
Douglas Report ^ | April 17, 2007 | Dr. Douglas

Posted on 10/27/2007 6:18:43 PM PDT by ddtorquee

Launched by an Executive Order in April of 2002 under the guise of expanding the scope of 1990's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health has since received the official sanction of the U.S. Congress...

This commission is the driving force behind a massive policy shift that will literally turn public schools into mental health screening centers...all parents of public school children are supposed to be receiving written notice of these new federally mandated mental health screening policies. Some will also get permission slips to sign that will allow school counselors or other non-medically-educated bureaucrats to evaluate children for such nebulous things as "happiness indicators."

What kind of horse-manure is this? Anybody who's ever raised a teenager knows that..."happiness indicators" can be few and far between in that age group...it means they're normal!

This just further proves that the New Freedom Initiative ISN'T about bettering children's mental health. It's about drug profits. And to give you a snapshot of how much money is at stake, here's an info-bite from the WorldNet article I referenced extensively in part 2 of this series:

Eli Lilly's top-selling drug is the antipsychotic Zyprexa, with $4.2 billion in annual sales worldwide. Owing in part to its "first-line" treatment status in the TMAP program (the Texas project on which the New Freedom Initiative is based), 70% of Zyprexa sales are to government agencies like Medicare and Medicaid…

Now, imagine how high this percentage would be (and how much higher the drug's gross sales would be) if the TMAP model were to be nationalized - which is, in effect, what the New Freedom Initiative would do. And remember, this is only for ONE DRUG! The New Freedom Initiative could conceivably mandate cramming dozens of psychotropic drugs down our kids' throats.

Big pharmacy’s goal is not cure, but to put every person
on a series of drugs..... for their entire life.

Patented drugs are good drugs. Very very good.

Some drugs are very very bad. They’re the enemy.

Big pharmacy will go to this if guaranteed health-care happens. How else will it survive if the government takes their profit motive away? Liberals are now finding ways to get business to think like governments.

I'm sorry folks, but if you think the drive of the left and their pocket psychologists are second to the pharmaceutical companies, to drug our children, I think you need to re-evaluate who it is that has tried everything they can to brainwash our children.

I'm not saying that the pharmaceutical companies are going to take a pass on profits, but they are not the ones driving this effort to medicate our chidlren.

IMO, there is no reason whatsoever to provide anything more than first aide at our schools.  PERIOD.

Upon recommendation from the school, parents should have their children evaluated for the need to have them medicated.  If the parent objects, they should pull the kid out and never go back.  It should not be done by people with a vested interest in controling the behavior of children they cannot control.

You are totally clueless. Or full of you know what. I'm in middle management at one of the 10 largest Pharma companies in the world. We strive for cures every day. We make lives manageable for those who suffer from chronic conditions. We have families, too. You think we look at profits before lives? You haven't a clue.

Sign up for the DemonRat campaign now. You sound like a spokesman for them.

It takes hundred of millions of dollars to bring a drug to market.

Should my industry not have introduced clot-busters to save heart attack and stroke patients? Or how about statins to keep them alive afterwards? Or BP meds to keep folks alive who won't lose weight or change their dietary habits?

Do a little research, (or thinking) before you condemn an entire industry.

I don’t think this happened under Bush. The dates in the link at post 12 suggests Clinton.

I can’t remember, which book do I need to reread, Brave New World or 1984?

This is scary.

This program was going on long before Bush came on the scene. Perhaps he should have taken action. I wouldn’t necessarily argue with that, but blaming him for what is going on isn’t exactly fair IMO. And there is no love lost between me and Bush.

My focus on Bush is that he doubled the budget of the Department of Education, a department that is so flawed that the only proper thing to do with it is to kill it, drive a stake through it’s heart and bury it.

Thanks for the ad hominem.
Despite your BS, I am knowledgeable; probably more so than you.

There are good drugs.
But do you think they have to be advertised on the 6:30 news?

And there is relatively no interest in cures. Can you guess why?

Agreed. And to think that I got flak from other Republicans in 2001 when I voiced my opposition to No Child Left Behind.(and I wasn’t exactly a conservative then, either)
