His name was Josh Evans. He was 16 years old. And he was hot.
"Mom! Mom! Mom! Look at him!" Tina Meier recalls her daughter saying.
Josh had contacted Megan Meier through her MySpace page and wanted to be added as a friend.Yes, he's cute, Tina Meier told her daughter. "Do you know who he is?"

I believe its called Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress; I don’t know if the parents can sue on behalf of this Child of God, but I hope they look into it. The evil and cruelty of the other mother (a disgrace to the term “adult”) in orchestrating this outrage is beyond belief, particularly when as the parent of a teenager herself she knows just how vulnerable such kids can be.
My daughter is not allowed to have a MySpace account for this reason. Too much drama.
Lawyers will find a way.............
Myspace was a better web community when it was strictly 18+.
The puerility is astounding.
Eventually, many of us come to realize our imperfect legal system isn't the answer or the remedy for every tragedy. Some of life's happenings transcend mere "legalities."
I remember doing this sort of things almost thirty years ago on the UI-Champaign PLATO system. We were much less intense - it was more like a Turing test. A guy would represent himself as a girl and see how things went. Interesting stuff...SSZ
Civil Suit should be filed against the Fraud ers
Unfortunately, the parents bear much of the responsibility here. They are ultimately responsible for allowing their daughter to have the MySpace account in the first place, and every warning sign they mention in this article should have been seen by them BEFORE this whole incident unfolded.
If they can prosecute pedophiles for this crime on the internet, then the parents should also fall under the same kind of laws. That is the way the lawyers will find.
The parents handed their child the gun when they gave her private access to a computer. I know a LOT of parents who have repeated the same mistake. They can’t blame themselves but they can warn other parents.
My daughter has been asking for a laptop since the Earth cooled. Not a chance.
I don't feel their intentions were for her to kill herself...sorry Charlie, that is what happened.
God, Jesus Christ, can people be so...so...so...what, mean?
The beginning of the end of the story was in the two words, "Tina relented." When a parent chooses the path of least resistance, it's just a matter of time.
From the article,- It does not appear that there will be criminal charges filed in connection with Megan’s death.-
Um, fraud? Stalking? Harassment over phone lines? The cops, when they want someone’s rear end, usually come up with lots of charges. For some reason, adults creating a fraudulent web persona for the purposes of harassing a minor child, with proof of harm caused, is not a big blip on the cops radar.
Since the web was involved perhaps the FBI can come up with somethigmn,I seem to remember fedral ant-stalking and anti-harassment statutes involving weband phone.
This was one of the many lessons I discussed with my 13 yr old twins after I had them read this article. And no, they are not allowed a MySpace account.
I agree. Horrid people. The pettiness of people never stops amazing me.
For any adult to do this to any child is just plain wrong.
This is so heartbreaking.
