No apologies over teen who hanged herself over failed romance, kin say
The parents of a 13-year-old Missouri girl who hanged herself after a failed MySpace romance later uncovered as a hoax say they have yet to receive an apology from the family they blame for their daughters death.
Theyve absolutely offered no apologies, Ron Meier told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer on Monday. They sent us a letter in the mail, basically saying that they might feel a little bit of responsibility, but they dont feel no guilt or remorse or anything for what they did.
Rather, said Tina Meier, the people are upset with her for going public with their story. Last week, while shopping, she ran into the woman who invented the hoax, Tina Meier said.

ANOTHER teen killed herself over a MySpace hoax?
Today the St. Louis Post Dispatch ran a headline that Atty Gen. Nixon has a 9-pt poll lead over the current Gov. Blunt. If Nixon really wanted to do something as AG to help people, he might take this case on. Surely this a form of harrassment that could be prosecuted.
She had a history of mental illness and had spoke of suicide before. This is quite sad but the girl was sick. Mentally healthy people don’t kill themselves over what people on the internet say about them.
The hoaxers are still scum-buckets of the highest order.
“Have to wonder what kind of adults would do something like this.”
Vile minions of Satan.
MySpace - no one under 14 but it's up to parents to decide if their younger teen is mature enough to use that web site.
I don’t think the Meiers have a criminal case. But I do think they have a civil one for wrongful death if they knew Megan was emotionally fragile and on anti-depressants. Not that there is much chance they will collect even if found guilty.
The parents are divorcing (imagine the fights they’ve had over this) and they’ll never get their daughter back. It’s just a really sad situation but the fact that a parent chose to set up a deliberate fraud rather than trying to be the adult in the situation is, in my belief, liable for civil damages.
Read this a few days ago. Very sad
Poorly worded. I do think the Meiers have a civil case for wrongful death if the other parents knew Megan was emotionally fragile and on anti-depressants.
The kind that make one wish Hell had an observation deck.
Why would the parents want their thirteen year old daughter exposed MySpace?
When a child enters the world of the internet, it’s like having the entire world sitting in your living room. What parent would want their child exposed to the evil in the world, when a child is not capable of handling it?
That’s what we think too. Why would a supposedly responsible adult take part in such a mean, cruel hoax?
The kind that will now have sleepless nights, watching and listening for the rest of their short, tense lives. At least I hope so.
The district attorney is saying that he can’t find a law to charge the perps with.
For starters, why aren’t authorities pulling any minor children out of the perps household as they are obviously unfit parents?
Ones that never grew up, at the very least...
Heartless, soulless,.... um,.... nevermind......Just fill in the blanks yourself.
Actually, from what I’ve heard about the case, the parents kept very close tabs on her activity online - they didn’t even give her the password to the myspace account in question, so she couldn’t access it unless one of them was with her. IMO, they displayed a lot more repsonsibility and parental control and involvement than most parents today do with their children’s internet activity.
unbelievably sad story — that teen
