Five From Md. Family Dead in Ohio Crash
The washington post ^ | Dec 31, 2007 | David P. Marino-Nachison

Five members of a Maryland family died late yesterday when their minivan was hit head-on by a pickup truck going the wrong way on a Toledo, Ohio-area interstate, according to the Toledo Blade.

Bethany Griffin, 36, and Jordan Griffin, 10, of Parkville, Md., to the northeast of Baltimore, were pronounced dead at the scene, along with Lacie Burkman, 7, and Haley Burkman, 10, police sources told the Blade. Lacie and Haley Burkman are from Redford, Mich., according to the Associated Press.

Six-month-old Vadi Griffin was pronounced dead after being taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Danny Griffin, 36, of Parkville, driver of the minivan, was in serious condition at St. Vincent this morning, the Blade reported. Sidney Griffin, 8, of Parkville, was in critical condition, hospital sources told the Blade; Beu Burkman, 8, address unknown, was in serious condition.

-snip-

Police told the Blade that Michael Gagnon, 24, of Adrian, Mich., the driver of the pickup, was injured and taken to St. Vincent, but the hospital did not provide the newspaper with information on a person bearing that name.

The Blade says Gagnon had been drinking at a bar; employees at a Taco Bell he visited after leaving the bar reportedly notified police of an intoxicated driver. The crash, the Blade reports, took place around 10:55 p.m.

No, I don’t. And it’s extremely crude and nasty of you to suggest otherwise. However, had it been one of those trucks we’re forced to admit via agreements such as NAFTA,

You mean like those "domestic" Dodge Rams built in Mexico?

Your post was a slam against so-called "foreign" manufacturers. A legitimate topic for some threads, but not this one. It was tasteless and insensitive.

Prayers.

This makes me so angry. The man who killed them should be charged with murder. I know there will be many others on the roads like this drunken man behind the wheel of what could become a deadly weapon in their hands.

I have friends and loved ones travelling today, and tonight. God bless and surround them, and all who have to be on the roads, within His providential care and guidance, and keep them safe.

TBP missed that it was a pickup truck and probably connected truck and Taco Bell with with the 18 Wheelers that come in from Mexico

I’m sure a lifetime in prison will give him plenty of time to contemplate what exactly he has done. Alcohol can make people do terrible things when they are intoxicated, not always are these actions a great thing to go by when judging a person. Good people, great people, sometimes do terrible things. That doesn't necessarily mean that he is a bad person deserving of death!

In my book life in prison is more cruel than a humane execution, for inmate and keeper alike. Dignity is worth something. Even for a murderer of innocents like Gagnon.

Maybe I’m too soft.

That pix needs to be in the Dictionary next to the word “smarmy.”

What a pinhead.

Prayers up for the remaining family members.

Similar one in Brunswick, GA, either Christmas night or the day after. Drunk in a pickup crossed the centerline and went head-on with a girl a day short of her 20th birthday.

Both killed.

Dadgummit! Why is it that the drunk always seems to survive while his stupid actions end up tearing families apart?

God Bless those who survive this family; the pain will be with them every Christmas.

AMEN to that! Our #2 son is driving up into NH to visit friends for a few days. Thankfully, we didn't have that much snow overnight, so the roads won't be bad. He was trying to get there before dark, which is a good thing. He'll likely be off the road before the drunks get rolling.

Prayers for him.

Talked to someone earlier who said the drunks have been ‘celebrating’ since Christmas Eve, and probably won’t slow down until Jan. 2. I just wish they would stay off of the roads to do it, or let someone who is sober drive them around, at least.

I wonder how many of the accidents caused on our roads are because of drunks and druggies behind the wheel. I’d bet that accounts for the majority.

My younger sister used to be a police officer, and she said that most of them were caused by DUIs.

I can’t get this horrible story out of my mind. Here is a good website that has lots of info. It has a link to the mom’s myspace page. She was a God loving, football loving American patriot. Her babies were precious.

Michael and his brother Samuel were waiting for their sister to pick them up from the bar to take them back to the hotel they were staying at and Michael just slipped out. He had a sober ride. Idiot!
