Reportedly built to make it easier to drive along the scenic southern coast without the significant possibility of a rock crashing through your windshield.
TOPICS: Arts/Photography; Education; Science; Travel
KEYWORDS: australia; bridge; cliff; ocean
Geologically speaking: "The bridge itself has become a major attraction because it happens at exactly the point where the Illawarra Escarpment plunges into the South Pacific Ocean"

Ping! Merry Christmas (belatedly) and Happy New Year (appropriately)!
As I post this, it's already 2008 in Australia.

Neat! Reminds me of the drive thru Glenwood Canyon, Colorado on I-70 in a vastly different geologic setting. Thanks.

I drove that section once. Gorgeous (not in the autumn, though, which is gorgeous-er).

The coast line around Sydney is very rocky and hilly. There’s one town around there (Coogee, for anyone who might have heard of it) that has a great coastline trail. It’s particularly impressive because of all the nice homes that are there on the hillside overlooking the ocean.

The highway reminds me of the Pacific Coast Highway in CA.
