The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Well I can tell you this much. We are going as far up the delegate tree as we can and that guy that carried the caucus will not be our vote.
In Iowa we are not tied to any of that. Oh, and I don’t think ANY of the Huckabee people stood up as delegates. On another thread some poster mentioned they seemed to be first timers and did not volunteer. That and the real conservative establishment in Iowa, like Steve King, endorsed Fred. One of the other delegates we the guy that stood up and talked for Rudy and was just about the only one that voted for him. So popcorn time indeed. Things could get interesting.

I’m a dream nurse...I “want” to come in for four hour shifts to fill in till another nurse comes on...I’ll do it every day if they need me.

Good for you for standing up for yourself! Isn't it so liberating to have some control over your own efforts?

I could have bid 16 at 8am, but it’s risen to a blazing 24 at this point in the day. ;o)

Trader Joe's is DEFINITELY worth the trip! That is the only store I'm gonna miss when we move South. I've been sending suggestions to them on their website requesting them to open a store on the MS Gulf Coast. Folks at the store told me they've opened a distribution facility in Atlanta, so that's a good start!

They have great prices on stuff; not inflated specialty store prices. Their chocolate IS good, and they have a nice variety. I don't buy my bread from them much, because a lot of it is sourdough, and I don't like it. But I do like their coffee, and their crackers and snacks are made without hydrogenated oils, which I like, too. They are also the only source in this area of Coho Salmon, which is flash frozen. When grilled or broiled, it's less oily than Atlantic salmon and VEY tasty.

It WILL be a very interesting election season. I think Republicans are so torn apart because this is the first contested primary in a LONG time. There is no real clear favorite, at this point, and folks have to hash things out. I don’t put a whole lot of stock in the results of Iowa and NH, even though my guy did better than expected. They are outliers, as far as I’m concerned, because they don’t seem representative of the majority of Republicans. More will be known after the SC primary and Super Duper Tuesday. Even MA has moved our primary to Feb. 5th so we’ll be part of Super Tuesday.

There is much that I like about this job...

They have the four hour shifts I spoke of. They get a last minute fill-in nurse and I get a quick $100.

It’s close by...takes me eight minutes to get there.

They offer 3-11 shifts. Agency pays more but I have to work 12 hour night shifts.

I can schedule in advance. With agency, it’s usually hit or miss last minute assignments. With the hospital, although I might be cancelled at the last minute, it’s unlikely.

So it’s a win/win situation for both of us but they need to mind their manners. You can’t run a hospital without nurses.

Well then I don't blame you for not getting out in those conditions. Good luck at the Good Will though.

And earlier you were talking about getting a little convection oven. Well, I have one, and granted, it was a pretty cheap one, but it's not the most even cooking thing I've ever seen. I've tried cooking muffins in it and the ones on the side nearest the fan tend to get browner than the other ones. And you definitely have to adjust your cooking temperature down or things will burn on the top and still be raw in the middle. So I cook things at a lower temperature for longer, which to me kinda defeats the purpose. Also, the knobs cracked and broke off after just a few months and I had to scavenge some new ones off of some other old appliance. But it's little and it wasn't real expensive, so there's that. I think mine is a Euro Pro, so I think I'll go with a different brand next time. I'm leaning towards one with a rotisserie, but with my luck it'll turn out to be a piece of crap too.

My brother had some whole wheat bread from them - we had it for breakfast pretty much every day I was down there, and it was wonderful. And I’m pretty picky about breads!

If they have the same bread here, I’ll probably get a few loaves to freeze. *drool*

Mmm...broiled salmon. And they had breaded tilapia (I think?) fillets that we had as sammiches that were also very tasty.

Did I mention I really should get a convection oven?

Yeah, that's kind of my dilemma. I could get a cheap one and accept that it may have flaws, but will still be better than what I have...or I could spend a lot of money.

This one seems to get mostly really good reviews, but it's not very wide, and it seems to be mostly geared toward casual users.

Then there are actual professional models, but those are vey spendy. And there are combo microwave/convection ovens (Sharp makes one that has good reviews), but my guess is that those would be a microwave first and an oven second rather than the other way around.

Hey 2J!! {waves}

I'm glad you're liking your new job!

I thought about you the other day when we had a med-flight helicopter go down while doing a search for a lost hunter. Kinda morbid I know, but I just remember thinking "Dang, and 2J wants to do that!". I know that's one of your dreams, but I was kinda glad that you weren't doing it at that moment. Although I know that it was just a freak accident, and probably a whole lot less likely to happen than a lot of other things, an unreasonable part of me just has to worry about people I know.

The other catch is I don’t really want a glorified toaster oven. I’ve got one of those and it doesn’t bake worth doodly. Doesn’t heat well at all when it comes to baking. Once upon a time I had an older Black and Decker toaster oven that you could actually make brownies in or broil steak or whatever. I used it and loved it for years, until one day my sister set it on fire and cracked the glass...

But I think most are best used strictly for toasting.

Yeah...it is risky. But it was probably riskier for me when I was driving home from work on New Year’s Eve at 11:30pm...

Heh heh!

I’m doing a “Ride-along” in the spring with the med-flight at my hospital system. Waiting till it’s warmer.
