This striped rabbit is critically endangered. When being raised as a child I hunted and ate many rabbits. I feel I should take a plight for the endangered and God given beautiful creatures. Revski

Actually, that's a dorayaki, not a pancake.

That is a Hareus nigerius (var zebrina) which is a cross between a hare and a zebra.

Striped Rabbit Stew

1 (2 1/2 to 3 lb.) striped rabbit, cut up
6 peeled, sm. white onions
1 1/2 c. diced celery
4 1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
2 qts. boiling water
2 c. diced carrots
2 c. diced potatoes
1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. cold water
1 tbsp. chopped parsley

Wash and dry cleaned striped rabbit. Place in kettle with next 6 ingredients. Cover; simmer 2 hours or until striped rabbit is tender. Add potatoes; blend flour and water. Stir into stew. Cook until thickened and add parsley.

A camera trap in the Bukit Barisan National Park in Indonesia captured the images of Sumatran rabbits. These special photos of the rabbit species are the only third recorded.
The World Conservation Union has listed the Sumatran striped rabbit as “Critically Endangered” specie.

Thanks for the info. If they are rare, is that normal for them, or just something which has occurred recently?

Some critters are timid, avoiding humans, or in relatively inaccessible habitat, so being seldom seen is actually normal.
