"Is this a messianic movement? A cult of personality? Or just good ol' fashioned politics?" WND reported how the numerous instances in which Obama has interrupted speeches to attend to a fainting follower has some questioning whether the campaign is employing shills or whether the phenomenon is evidence of fanaticism and cause for concern.

Apparently, Senator Barack Hussein Obama, D-Illinois, is the Messiah. Jesus didnt get this kind of Sunday media coverage on Easter Sunday. It is no wonder Slate.com has a running Obama Messiah Watch dedicated to considering evidence that Obama is the Son of God. What has Obama done to earn such praise? He has no record. But he does have rhetoric the kind of rhetoric that makes people all warm and fuzzy inside.

Thus, in post-Judeo-Christian America, the sports club is the new church. Global warming is the new religion. Vegetarianism is the new sacrament. Hooking up, the new prayer. Talk therapy, the new witnessing. Tattooing and piercing, the new sacred symbols and rituals. And apparently, Barack Obama is the new messiah.

U.K. Telegraph: "For many it is simply a sign of his charisma. But for a growing number of Barack Obama sceptics, there is something disturbing about the adulation with which the senator and Democratic presidential frontrunner is greeted as he campaigns for the White House - unnervingly akin to the hysteria of a cult, or or the fervour of a religious revival."

Many had come just to hear him speak. Some cried. Others just waved their hands. "He's running a theological campaign," said the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who ran for president in 1984 and 1988. "At some point, he took off his arms and grew wings."

Ezra Klein: "Obama's finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don't even really inspire. They elevate. . . . He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh . . . Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves."

Congressman Bobby Rush: I would characterize the Senate race as being a race where Obama was, lets say, blessed and highly favored.

Joe Klein: "There was something just a wee bit creepy about the mass messianism. The message is becoming dangerously self-referential. The Obama campaign all too often is about how wonderful the Obama campaign is."

The left has long dreamed of returning to a Camelot that never was and find a reincarnated JFK, MLK, Ghandi and Jesus to worship and support.
