Flowers From The Garden

There is a window in your heart, that opens on a garden,
A place you can retreat to when you need to ask for pardon,
For having been abusive, to the child that lives in you,
By simply asking way too much, for any child to do.

Don’t ask for the surrender, of childhood dreams so gay,
That they could always bring a smile, despite a rainy day.
The toys we had as children, were of the simplest sort,
A cardboard tube became a sword, a cardboard box a fort.
Children can be happy, they’ve learned the art of play,
Try not to lose that talent as you go about your day.
With all the noise and bustle that distracts you from that art,
Take time to smell the flowers from the garden in your heart.

Songbird In The Dark
The Dayspring from on high has visited us. —Luke 1:78

Just before the sunrise, we often hear songbirds welcoming the dawn. Despite the darkness, we know that the radiant light of the sun will soon appear.

Fanny Crosby has been called “The Songbird in the Dark.” Though blinded in infancy, she wrote hymns that inspirationally envision our future reunion with Christ. Early in her life, Fanny had a dream in which she saw the panorama of a glorious heaven, and many of her songs reflect that theme. By the time of her death, she had penned at least 8,000 hymns. Songs such as “Tell Me the Story of Jesus” and “To God Be the Glory” are still popular today.

When Zacharias praised God in anticipation of the Messiah, he also looked forward to a spiritual sunrise. Citing Malachi 4:2, he proclaimed: “The Dayspring [sunrise] from on high has visited us; to give light to those who sit in darkness” (Luke 1:78-79). That Messiah came to earth, died for our sins, rose again, ascended, and promised to return for us.

Do you feel surrounded by dark and confusing circumstances? You can still lift your praise to God for the bright future you will share with His Son. The words of Fanny Crosby’s beloved hymn “Blessed Assurance” encourage us as we anticipate this glorious reunion with Christ.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.  —Crosby

For the Christian, the dark sorrows of earth will one day be changed into the bright songs of heaven.

But Today

I’m worried about next week,
When some debts are coming due,
And concerns about my family’s health,
Are constantly in view.

But today, the sun is shining,
And my heart is quite at peace,
For the moment, at this instance,
I’m not looking for surcease.

I have some years behind me,
And more yet still ahead,
But on the whole they pleased me,
More than filling me with dread.

For today, the birds spread wings of joy,
To embrace the world “this much”,
Just as do I, in reaching out,
To keep my heart in touch.

In the distant future, when I as memory,
Will haunt the hills and hollows,
Of a changed vicinity,
Then my touch will be as follows:

Folk will be seeing rainbows,
Or singing birds in flight,
And sometimes thoughts of mine,
Will then intrude upon their sight.

For tomorrow will be coming,
While I wend another way,
And my focus will not be with things,
That may be coming, but today.

Happy March, everyone. Thank you, Amy, for opening the doors to our March Poetry and Potpourri Place.

I have come down with a yucky cold so I may not be around much.....but I am hoping that it could just be allergies to all the trees blooming here.

Guess I should get dressed, but I so love lounging around on Saturdays. :-)

Spring colds are so miserable. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Guess I shouldn't have brought you flowers until we know whether it is a cold or allergies.

Get well soon, Lori.

I’ve spent over an hour on the phone with HP ..... now waiting for a call back.

I’m hoping I can get my computer working without freezing on me. I’m getting tired of using PrissyMissy’s. ; (

If I don’t get back for awhile, I’m still having troubles.
