Coleman Powermate Bankruptcy?

Posted on 03/19/2008 12:34:51 PM PDT by doc390

After recent trouble w/ a relativly new standby generator, while awaiting parts, the dealer informed me that Coleman Powermate is shut down, not taking calls, & probably bankrupt. According to this company, their people at another branch stopped at the Powermate headquarters, & found everything locked up. Coleman Powermate is located in Aurora, IL, & manufactures generators, pressure washers, & compressors. The links on their website http://www.powermate.com/ are dead, too.

TOPICS: Agriculture; Business/Economy; Miscellaneous; Outdoors
KEYWORDS: bankrupt; coleman; generator; powermate
Coleman Powermate's recorded message (800) 445-1805 says that "due to reasons beyond our control, no one is available to take your call." No news on the web, either.

Guess I'll have problems if I ever need warranty work.

If a company like that can’t make money in exports with the dollar as low as it is, they deserve to go bust.

Well, its chapter 11 which can mean a recovery.

I’m guessing that with greatly reduced hurricanes they had sales problems.

Good luck

Well crap, I've been having one for 3 1/2 years and never a lick of trouble. Sooner or later something will go wrong with a proprietary part and we are screwed. So much for brand names.

I was kind of joking. I’ve had my Powermate for well over 10 years and haven’t experienced any problems at all.

Well if I get ten years out of mine, I'll consider that getting my money's worth. Just hate to see the company go under and kill the availability of generator parts. The Briggs 10hp OHV engine won't be a problem for parts.
