While Jim Rob is away, let's talk about him behind his back
The Freepers | May 14, 2008 | Auntie Mame

While Jim Robinson is away for medical treatment, how about we talk about him?

I'll start it off by first saying how grateful I am for this wonderful FreeRepublic.com he invented and maintains. I've met not only Jim and Sheila and John and Chris, but hundreds of Freepers, brilliant, amazingly wonderful people (including my husband) solely because of FreeRepublic.com.

Let the fun begin........

And, contrary to popular belief, Jim Robinson is of no relation to Elaine Robinson, from the movie The Graduate. Though he did attend the wedding.

I think he met Sheila there. And as they say, the rest is history.

Jim gave me a voice at a time when I didn't have one. Thanks seem inadequate. BTT.

I agree, this is the best form of therapy there is.

This site gives us the ability to learn, to speak out, and to hone our arguments in support of conservatism.

Nothing else like it to unwind after a day at work.

Our prayers are with Jim. He has created a home for all conservatives. Sometimes dysfunctional and hard, this site is revered as the bastion of conservative ideas. I have never met a more diverse group that is so passionate as to correct my spelling. It’s actually a blessing. :^)

Actually, I did take part in a demonstration in Milwaukee back in 2000 during the recount. We were there visiting family and I saw it posted on FR so we went downtown and took part. I talked to some of the others but have no idea who they were. People took turns speaking and then we marched through the streets, carrying signs before disbanding and going our own ways. I remember one old lady in a fur coat, riding in the back of a Lincoln Continental flipping us off. I got a good laugh out of that one.

I’ll be retired before the 2012 elections. I intend to travel and get more involved in freeping and meeting some of you fine folks. I also want to attend the inaugaration of a real president in ‘12.

Living in NW ND puts me a long ways away from the action.

Free Republic inspires me to always be cognizant of my commitment to the Constitution while performing my duties as a Border Patrol Agent. My fellow agents are my back up in the field. My fellow Freepers are my back up in court.

Every attempt to halt or reverse {Life in a straight-jacket or wearing the yoke of tyranny] are worthy of recognition and praise.

You can say that again.

One thing, even more important in my opinion, is what one man in a wheelchair, one man who could have just given up when life handed him what to some would be a lousy deal, didn't let it deter him from his passion. Then, when his creation was under attack from many fronts, including the courts, he forged on. And it's still here. He's still here. Better than ever.

Get well soon, Jim. Prayers UP!

Fatima: He IS going to be all right. I absolutely KNOW it.

.... although I’d feel a lot better if they’d get him in one of those parabolic oxygen chamber things and tried to save his leg.

But be that as it may, we can do more good for him with our prayers and with joyfilled, grateful thoughts, than being morose and sad.

Bless you for caring so much.

Praying hard here.

Thank you for doing a dangerous, too often unappreciated job. You know that most Freepers do appreciate you!

Jim gave me a voice at a time when I didn't have one.

I agree so much.

In the early days, when there wasn't Lucianne, Huffington, Kos, etc., everyone came here. I felt that my (most insightful of all) posts shaped what the media pundits (lurking anonymously) thought, which was very empowering.

didn't let it deter him from his passion.

FR became a replacement for a friend of mine who was the most common-sense kinda guy you'd ever meet. We talked at length about the way things were crumbling around us and how it could be fixed. After he died, I was without any similar contact and just happened on FR by accident. Here, I've laughed, teared-up a few times, and just about run the gamut of emotions among folks who hold freedom dear.

I had the honor of serving in the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club — shuttling Alfa Strike Packages from the RTCC/7AF out to the carriers on station — the same time Jim was serving in a Tin Can, doing shore bombardment and plane guard duty. A very small world.

Was further honored to be a Charter Member of our Free Republic when Jim cranked up this wonderful organization, well over a decade ago.

I wish this wonderful gentleman every good fortune in the days ahead.

I am like you. I can’t believe how grateful I am to him for Free Republic. Just thinking of what it took in terms of time, money, expertise, and dedication to get the website up and working properly—not to mention KEEPING it a going concern for all these years, expanding and improving it as time went on. (John, you are included, too...) all I can think of to say is, “Thank you, Mr. Robinson, for having this wonderful dream for all of us!”
