"San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, right, marries Phyllis Lyon, 84, second from left, and Del Martin, 87, third from left, in a special ceremony at City Hall in San Francisco."
"Octogenarians Del Martin (L, bottom) and Phyllis Lyon (standing, 2nd L) take their vows with San Francisco county clerk Edwin Lee (R) in the first legal same-sex marriage ceremony, at San Francisco City Hall in San Francisco."
"Octogenarians Del Martin (2nd L) and Phyllis Lyon (R) smile as Mayor Gavin Newsom (2nd R) preside (sic) over the first legal same-sex marriage ceremony at San Francisco City Hall in San Francisco, California June 16, 2008. California performed its first legally recognized same-sex weddings on Monday and opened its doors to gay and lesbian couples from around the country, a move likely to challenge other states that define marriage as between a man and a woman.."

Glad to see Newsome took some time off from adultery to let two women “marry” themselves- disregarding of the voters of California.

I have two
rhetorical questions here; 1) how does this change things for these ladys who have been 'successfully' cohabitating for all those years? and 2) will there be the same amount of coverage for the inevitable divorces to follow? I don't have the stats at hand, but I think that Massachusetts' gay divorce rate has exceeded that of non-gays since gay weddings have been permitted.
(Yes, I too hate the preemption of 'gay' by the homosexuals! I wonder where the book, "Our Hearts Were Young and Gay", can be found now days?)
