'Men At Work' signs to disappear in Atlanta (Warning: Nitwit's peeve gone wild)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 7/10/08 | ERIC STIRGUS

In the battle of the sexes, women's magazine editor Cynthia Good said this was a skirmish she had to fight.

Across Atlanta they stood, orange signs with black letters that read "Men At Work" or "Men Working Ahead."

Sometimes, the signs stood next to women working alongside the men.

Good demanded Atlanta officials remove the signs and last week, Atlanta Public Works Commissioner Joe Basista agreed.

Score one for gender equality, Good said Wednesday.

"They get it," Good said about the city in a telephone interview.

Public Works officials are replacing 50 "Men Working" with signs that say "Workers Ahead." It will cost $22 to cover over some of the old signs and $144 to buy new signs, said Public Works spokeswoman Valerie Bell-Smith said.

I would much prefer Cynthia Good be peeved about women being abused... or if Cyntia had taken a stand against the pig Clinton... BUT to cost a business money to make new signs because she was peeved is idiotic.

And, to think that businesses go along with this nonsense.

Another sister in the world gone down because of nitwit behavior.

Oh, please...get over it. This political correctness stuff has driven common sense from the world.

I'm reminded of back in the 70's when the fuel shortages caused the speed limit on federal highways to drop to 55mph. The new signs were at state expense, lest the state lose federal highway subsidies. The state of Texas installed the signs 6" too low. The feds told them to raise the sign 6" or loss the federal subsidy money. So the state of Texas went back and raised all the signs in the state 6".

Had they not done this, the feds would have come in and lowered the roads by 6".

Feminism takes a stand against another of the “great injustices” inflicted by the patriarchy ... road signs.

Don’t these broads have anything better to do?

What business? This is a Public Works Department. That means the taxpayers pick up the tab.

I'd much prefer the PWD tell this woman if she is so committed to changing the signs that SHE pay for the new ones.
How loud do you think she'd scream then?

Has anyone else noticed how the term “framers” of the Constitution is now in common usage, rather than the term “Founding Fathers”? This change in the languate was initiated due to women’s lib. Certain feminists self esteem was hurt because Founding Fathers inplies that men were in charge and men wrote the Constitution.

The irony is that every single one of the “Framers” quote, unquote, was a man.

The women who marched 100+ years ago for the right of women to vote were called “Suffragettes”. The feminine suffix correctly identifies that they were women. Was that incorrect to identify them that way? After all, that title hurts the self esteem of the men at that time who supported womens’ right to vote.

What about the musical group “Men At Work”? Do they have to change their name?

Are they still around, or did they go back to the Land Down Under?

Well, maybe it’s a trend of the times. Stewardesses are now called “flight attendante”. And flight attendants can be either men or women, though most are women.

And at weddings nowadays, the minister or whoever is performing the ceremony says “I now pronounce you husband and wife, rather than “man and wife”. Apparently “man and wife” implies a dominance by the man so that was changed.

Let’s send her to the Middle East where she can start a campaign against female genital mutilation.

Even the male flight attendants are women.

Glen Campbell needs to change the lyrics of “Wichita Lineman” to “Wichita Line Worker” or some such term.

John Travolta wasn’t an “Urban Cowboy”. The movie needs to be called “Urban Cattle Handler”, or “Urban Rancher”.

It's worse than you think. The sign changed from "Men at work" to "Workers ahead". These people went from men (humans) to workers (political tools). Political correctness is about changing words to change people's minds, often in subtle and insidious ways.

Boulder , Colorado no longer allows the use of “Man hole” because it was deemed sexist. Now it is “Utility cover” or some such nonsence.

Ya why don’t these enlightened feminists who live in the western world campaign against some barbaric things like genital mutilation in other parts of the world? Why not be involved in something like that, which actually could make a difference in the world, rather than the trivia of a road sign?

Girl construction workers would be hot (sort of like Jennifer Beals in “Flashdance”). But this is probably false advertising.
