A 22 year yr old's RANT

I'm a twenty-two Virginian girl, and this is my rant at my peers.

Every day I peruse the forums of FreeRepublic, scouring the pages and reading of the troubles that face the United States. And to be entirely honest, it breaks my heart. Every time see another article about the efforts of so many to bring radical and harmful changes to America, I can think of nothing except the English landing at Jamestown and one man saying that if paradise existed on Earth, it was Virginia.

And now many people are trying to pull the United States down to the standards of the world.

When I was growing up, there were only two things that I knew would always be and always be good. God and the United States. I was raised to love Virginia and the South, because they were noble and an inseperable part of me, but I was also taught that the United States had given me more than I could ever give back-- that countless men had died violent deaths so that I wouldn't have to suffer the same fate. They had thrown off the yoke of tyrrany on our soil, and had been taking the fight for our own freedom and the freedom of people they didn't even know to the doorstep of evil ever since.

Every time I hear the national anthem my eyes tear up and my heart pounds because I think of how many times the sight of our flag has meant freedom, resuce, and safety. And yet all around me, people talk through it, and only a few put their hands over their hearts.

I truly believe that the God of the universe is good and that we were made in His image. And those lase vestiges of Godliness in us were poured out into the formation of our nation and in selfless service to it.

I would like to say that if we keep electing radical liberals who would like this country hurt and on its knees, I'll leave. But I won't. This place means too much to me, and I won't leave until I'm dead.

As Americans we face a new form of tyrrany today. We see it from the people who would like to have their America custom fitted to them. They would like to give evil men the rights of our citizens. They want to split wide our borders and indoctrinate our children. They take and take and take, but have never given.

My generation is much like that of my parents, who were born into a time of prosperity to parents who never wanted their children to see the unhappiness they did. Because their parents were bravely building a proud and strong nation, they did not have to worry about doing it themselves. Character building childhood experiences died with my grandparents' (the depression and WWII) generation.

Luckily my parents and their parents knew the value of sacrifice, probably largely instilled by their faith. And so it was passed on to me.

I'll never forget being at a party early this spring at college. I was standing outside with the smokers, and someone commented on America. I remarked, "America is the best country on Earth," expecting to hear agreements. Instead, a vicious girl from Holland attacked me with her beliefs about our great nation. All I could say to her was that if she didn't like it, she was more than welcome to go home. But that isn't was really suprised me. Europeans my age are lucky if they can even begin to think for themselves, so once I learned she was from Holland, I wasn't surprised. What surprised me was how the Americans who stood around me said nothing. They watched and listened and looked at me, resigning themselves to passive weakness. I will never forget the faces of the young men as they stood there, weakness and fear in their eyes. They cannot be called men. America's men are dwindling and being replaced by a new class of male people who are too afraid to fight for anything.

And the situation is growing dire.

While we are desperately trying to revive her, the radicals are cupping their hands together and holding them under the wounds of America, rejoicing that they've gotten what they want. And so my generation will let the lifeblood of America, this beautiful and righteous nation, slip through the cracks in their fingers as they each look at the blood on their hands and point to the rest of us, blaming us for trying to save her while we still could.

I didn’t mean to say that they were. But the openly conservative ones are in the minority.

This obviously excludes VMI, God bless it.

I am old enough to be your grandfather. You are a very astute young lady. Do not join the marines or any service. Because after November you will surely be ordered to do the devil’s work. Regardless of who is elected. Be strong. Never surrender your beliefs. But keep silent when it is advantageous in the presence of enemies. I truly wish you well for you are the future


Amen to that.

Take heart there's lots of good guys and gals still out there that love America. I'm first generation American, and just like your Virginian parents taught you, mine taught me to love God and America too. Good job on the post!

That is what has been lost. Patriotism.

Yeah, college didn’t work out for either of us(money issues) but he is in better shape than I am.

If you’re under 40, and really want to join, talk to the recruiter; they slimmed me down by about 20 lbs so I could join.

The rest of the world whines about us and we still help during natural disasters, AIDS, etc. Personally they can all kiss off.

Just a suggestion: No 22 year old female should refer to herself as a “girl” if she wants to be treated like an adult.

And if you're serious about what you say, you should probably stop thinking of yourself as a "girl," too.

It's not intended as a slam -- it's just a fact. "Girls" are their parents' responsibility. "Women" are responsible for themselves.

For what it's worth, I think much of the difficulty in the US and elsewhere is that a lot of folks even in their 60s still think of themselves as "guys" or "girls," rather than as responsible adults.

Like kids, a lot of Americans are certain that somebody else -- the "adults" -- will clean up their messes after them. Unfortunately, there aren't all that many adults anymore, either in positions of leadership, or among the voters who put them in office.

Keep the faith, young lady as there are plenty of good people out there. You probably aren’t going to run into a majority of them on college campi’, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good ones there.

I would suggest you take a hiatus from reading negativity for a while. The fact is, every generation thinks things are getting worse and only see doom in the future, yet the reality is with each generation our nation becomes stronger, more prosperous, and better. Many of the complaints we have no are, frankly, trivial compared to the challenges this country has gone through.

This country has survived from a Revolution against the greatest superpower of her day, through invasion, slavery, civil war, two world wars, depressions, recessions, Wilsons, Carters, and Clintons, and yet, we always come out stronger.

This is the USA, the greatest country on earth. We are NOT a third world country, we aren't becoming a third world country, and don't let anyone bring you down.

The only thing that could destroy the USA is if we all lose that spirit that created this country through hopelessness, lack of will, and negativity.

To sum up- Ignore the WhinoCons.

Vietnam era vet. I was thin when I went in, and even thinner when I got out...Left a few parts behind. Felt 80 years older though.
