Sen. Joe Lieberman praises pastor who said Holocaust was God's work One of John McCain's most prominent supporters on Tuesday praised an evangelical leader whom the Republican presidential candidate repudiated after a string of controversial remarks were made public. Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent who frequently campaigns with McCain, said pastor John Hagee's support for Israel outweighed the remarks that led McCain to reject his endorsement. Lieberman said he had been urged not to speak to Hagee's group, Christians United for Israel. Advertisement "The bond that I feel with Pastor Hagee and each and every one of you is much stronger than that, and so I am proud to stand with you tonight," Lieberman told several thousand members of the group, which urges U.S. support for Israel. "I don't agree with everything that Pastor Hagee's done and said ... but there is so much more important than that that we agree on," Lieberman said. McCain, in an effort to reach out to evangelicals who are among the most loyal Republican voters, accepted Hagee's endorsement in March but rejected him in May after learning that the Texas preacher once said that God allowed the Holocaust to happen because it led to the creation of Israel. McCain addressed Christians United for Israel last year. His campaign declined to comment. Hagee, who heads the 19,000-member Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, also was criticized for calling the Catholic Church "the Great Whore" and saying that God punished New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina for staging a gay-rights parade. He has since apologized to Catholics. Hagee said the spotlight had been unsettling and condemned what he said was misleading media coverage. "What will I say when I'm asked to endorse a presidential candidate? Never again,"

They are always pulling quotes like this out of context on Christians.
The fact is, scripture states everything is in God’s hands and under his control. The MSM loves to play up when evangelicals say this, and play it as if God is evil and we approve of it.
By Reuters... figures. They still try to spin Hagee into an antisemite, which can’t be farther from truth.
Could they have possibly come up with a more twisted headline?
This is such pure garbage. There is no better friend of the Jews and Israel than Hagee.
It is entirely consistent with Christian and Jewish tradition, and the Bible text, that God has done and might be doing things in response to peoples’ lack of faith and obedience.
The Hagee comments are not a big deal.
A bigger deal is mainline denominations who leave out the parts about a wrathful God.
Many orthodox Rabbis share this theological view, and came to Hagee's defense. This should explain enough.
“Hagee said the spotlight had been unsettling”
mmmmmmmBWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! This guy can’t get ENOUGH of the spotlight! He’s an attention whore who just doesn’t like being called to account.
Sorry, I have a bunch of friends, believing Christians, who go to his church, and I can’t understand why they don’t see him for what he is.
This only became a news story after the Rev. Wright story finally broke in the MSM.
Or rather, it was the Obama campaign adjunct staff’s (read: MSM) attempt to equate (and therefore cancel out) the Wright story with the Hagee story.
True enough, although I believe that when God allows things like this to happen He does it to show us what happens when good people stand by and do nothing to confront evil.
I don’t listen to Hagee. . .I’m kinda surprised Joe does.
The Holocaust itself cannot in any way be ascribed to God, as God being wholly good cannot chose evil.
The Nazis had the power of choice and chose to commit one of the most unspeakable act in history.
God through His sovereign power turned this unspeakable act into an act of redemption: the establishment of the modern state of Israel.
If you believe God is omnipotent, and if he isn't then it's hard to believe he's really God, then anything that happens he allows to happen.
We can talk all week about why he allows bad things to happen, but that he does is kind of beyond dispute.
