Was “X-Files” broadcast in black and white with Burma-Shave commercials?

As a 43-year-old, I resent the “modern-day” caveat ;)

The ratings may not have been good but was it promoted at all? The first I heard of it was when I saw it in the TV listings.

I really liked it. It felt like it was trying a little too hard to be ‘The X-Files by JJ Abrams’ (especially the title sequence and the captions), and I can only imagine the special effects budget, but it was pretty cool. It doesn’t need to be the X-Files though, and as far as chemistry goes... we have an attractive male lead and an attractive female lead, there’s eventually going to be some tension there for sure! I’m really looking forward to see where it goes from here. As long as the plot doesn’t get too convoluted like Lost, it’s good.

We liked it. Glad to see Mark Valley get a better role. He’s been wasted on Boston Legal.

Wish they would eliminate chases (car especially and chasing a running man also) I’ve seen enough chases to last the rest of my life.

But basically, it was extremely well done with some interesting characters, especially the genius ... and odd ... scientist and his son.

The girl lead did a good job also.

I cried intensely when B5 ended. Surprised myself by the depth of ethos built up over five seasons (watched for the first time in a period of four months in 2006 via Netflix DVDs). Only the Sopranos has matched B5 in story-telling and needless to say the ending didn’t make me cry.

Wow it’s nice to actually see another Babylon 5 fans. I actually started watching it in eight grade on SciFi on reruns, but I fell absolutely in love with it. I’ve only met one other in my 7 year on- off (I forgot about when it died of SciFi, but fell in love when I tried to get it on video for years, and then finally got it on DVD).

OH, for all who missed the show (Fringe), IT’s SUPPOSED TO REPEAT ON SUNDAY night on FOX at Eight. (I did... and hope to see it, but it’s supposed to be amazing.)

Got it on the DVR. I’m hoping it’s like the first 3 or 4 years of X-Files but never becomes like post first movie X-Files. X-Files got really boring the 3rd or 4th time it was revealed that the secret masters with the evil plot were actually just tools of even more secret masters with an evil more evil plot. Big reveals need to actually reveal something other than the fact that there is an even bigger reveal coming next season.

The first episode of X-Files aired 15 years ago today (yes I looked it up). In TV terms that’s a steam engine, might as well be Sanford and Son.

It didn’t grab me by the throat and hold on the way the LOST premier did. Still, it was a lot better than the average television pilot. It had enough that was different about it, and the scientist/son characters were quirky enough, that I’ll keep watching. It holds promise.

Hey!!!
I loved "Sanford and Son", but it wasn't even the same generation.

Man, that's just mean.

The new "Fringe" show appears to be a somewhat pale imitation, IMHO.

Besides, everybody knows that "Fringe" is a copy of "X-Files" (1993) and "X-Files" is a decent extension of "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" (1972/1974). Even the re-make of the series (2005) wasn't as good.

I liked Sanford and Son too, one of the many great shows of the 70s we ripped off from the BBC. But as TV generations go it’s ancient history. TV has a short memory.

I watched my DVRed Fringe last night. It’s pretty good. Looks like it’s grabbing some of the good things from X-Files and blending in some of JJ’s more entertaining habits. Given the ratings hopefully it’s maintaining the JJ habit of being made REALLY cheap (that’s how Alias survived 5 years, it never had good numbers but since JJ knows how to make the same alley behind Universal look like it’s in every city in the world it was cheap enough that the bad numbers were still profitable).

Fringe is great!!!

Anna Torv looks perfect for the lead; very Jennifer Garnerish -- a strong woman drawn into something much against her will. Michael Giacchino's music is top notch. And the plot seems perfect for several years' worth of high weirdness. Loved the lettering of the scene changes. The cow was cool, too.
