Caught on camera: The world's deepest-dwelling fish five miles under the ocean's surface

British scientists have filmed a species of fish said to be the deepest-dwelling ocean animal ever captured on camera. ...the ghostly white Hadal snail fish off Japan’s east coast at a depth of 7,700m....

Incredible: The snail fish survive in total darkness
at a depth where the pressure is equivalent to 1,600 elephants standing
on the roof of a Mini

...The hadal snailfish...are found below 3.7 miles...in total darkness, near-freezing temperatures and immense water pressure.

They feed on the thousands of tiny shrimp-like creatures that scavenge the carcasses of dead fish and detritus reaching the ocean floor.

I went to a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles and after several bottles of sake and some ordinary sushi, the chefs thought they would play with the two round-eyed boys. They started bringing out stuff that was still wiggling, sliced it up and served it with raw quail’s eggs broken over the top. We ate it to laughter from the chefs, paid up, said, “Domo arigato” and slinked out.

No, I’m sorry. That looks artfully arranged.

I’m talking fish explosions here.

what would ... 1600 elephants be doing on the ocean bottom. please explain.

If the elephants were McCain's campaign strategists they'd be looking for their, uh, source of testosterone.

But I bet if you took 1600 elephants and had them step on this fish it would squish like a bug.

The elephants aren’t on the ocean bottom. They are standing on the roof of the mini.

So, why is the mini on the bottom of the ocean, with all those elephants on it?

It's not on the bottom either. It is sitting on the backs of three turtles.

They look like half formed young. Wouldn’t it be something if these were just the babies and they grow into monsters the scientists have not spotted yet.
