I own a S&W 357 (Long, freakin' barreled handgun) that can not be carried around at all, it's too long. I got it from my grandfather, when he passed!
I own a Walther PPK, I sold my P99 recently. But I decided to go in to a dealer today, just to see something new with some more stopping power than the PPK. They tried to sell me on a Glock 19 (which I liked alot actually). I went and shot it, in the shooting range, and I would like to get your honest opinion on that gun!
I want something with some stopping power, than a PPK. I know the PPK will not give me the stopping power I need, so I will ask you, and hope you can give me some honest responses on a Glock 19. What do you think?

I want a really good reliable handgun for myself with some stopping power, beside the PPK.

Is that a compact gun? I don’t want a sub-compact, I want something fairly small and concealed....

The GLOCK 19 is the exact same size handgun as the 23, just different caliber. The GLOCK 30 is a bit bigger in the width area.
I prefer the PPK in .380 or a poor-man’s equivalent (Bersa) over the Glock, but that’s just me. I would also prefer to carry a S&W 38 over the Glock. If you like the Glock, than go for it.
I’ve got the Glock 20 with which I am very happy. If you plan to do a lot of shooting, the ammo is a bit pricey, but the firepower is far superior.
the P-9 Kahr is the much better CCW gun due to weight.

With a Gock, you are the safety. Keep your finger off the trigger unless you intend to fire. Same with a revolver.
I’m a guy, 5’7. It’s for carry. I tried it out today, and I really liked it! Not worried about kick at all, I can handle it!

That makes no sense.
You should be far more concerned about the ammunition than the firearm. Most all of the modern pistols from reputable manufactures are reliable enough for personal defense use.
But what happens after your first round hits the bad guy? Will he have enough life left to launch a projectile from his firearm into you, making the choice of your weapon a moot point?
A 40 S&W is the minimum auto pistol cartridge you should consider for serious purposes. A 357 Sig or 45 Auto are also good choices. A 45 Auto is excellent if you can handle the recoil.
A 357 Magnum revolver is an excellent choice. If the barrel on your revolver is too long, you might consider trading it for a shorter barreled version.
A good hollow point bullet, such as the SPEER Gold Dot, is mandatory to achieve the desired results.
It is a good, reliable gun. There’s nothing wrong with the firearm. The 9mm leaves much to be desired in terms of ballistic performance, but there’s nothing wrong with the Glock - they’re simple, reliable, etc. I don’t know that they’re a great carry gun unless you’re a pretty good sized guy - one of the sub-compact Glocks might be a better choice.
You can change the trigger pull on the early Glocks to a heavier trigger - the early 19’s have about a 5# pull. If you want a heavier trigger, there’s an 8 or 9# trigger connector bar you can install.
If you do choose to use a 9mm, get the best performance ammo you can for defensive carry.
Personally, if you’re in the market for a new carry piece, I’d look towards the compact .45’s. Again, there’s nothing wrong with the Glock 19, but there are better tools for the job now.
if sig p229 is too big...you should look at some HKs too.
I would suggest the way things are shaping up to complete those gun purchases; especially handguns and semi-auto rifles before November 4. Suspect there will be a MAJOR run on the gun stores if Barry gets elected. They are already doing very well these past few months.
I have a Beretta 85 for carry License pendi and a classic Beretta 92 for home defense. I think the Glock 19 is a very good, reliable handgun, with decent stopping power using +P hollow point ammo.
So overall, it’s a good gun, in your opinion?

Yes, the 19 is a decent handgun — very light and extremely reliable. I never carried anything else, so I can’t really compare it to other weapons in terms of conceal/carry. I think the safety’s a little dangerous and yes, I’ve heard it’s not the best in terms of stopping power. Hollow points change that, though.
The G19 is a fine choice for personal defense firearm. You might want to check out a real firearms site such as www.glocktalk.com for real good info on GLOCKs.
Contrary to above post, the G19 is not a full size gun. It is a compact. The G17 (original Glock) is the full size 9mm.
I own several Glocks, XDs, HKs, Sigs etc. In my opinion, the G19 the finest CCW gun made. 15 rounds of 9mm in a very concealable, slim package.
Springfield XDs are good guns but the trigger pull is awful and the trigger reset length is far too long. This can be cured by a trip to Springer Precision but I assume you’re looking for out of the box comparisons.
Get the G19, put a 3.5 lb transfer bar in to improve the trigger pull and make sure to get tritium night sights. This is all you need to do.
Do not waste money on lasers and such. Spend your money on practice rounds, training and learn to use your sights.
Lastly, don’t worry about caliber. 124 grain 9mm defensive rounds such as the Ranger and Gold Dot offer adequate stopping power should you do your part with decent shot placement.
Get the G19 and don’t look back.

9mm isn’t known for its stopping power. The US military is going away from the 9mm for that reason.
As far as stopping power, if you can’t place your shots, even a 44 mag won’t stop anything.
If you can accurately shoot the PPK, stay with that, as it is easier to conceal than the Glock.
I want stopping power at this point! I don’t think the PPK will ever give me that!
