I'm not over the hill yet. But I can see the top of it. In spite of that I'm still full of piss and vinegar. I was born rugged and hope to go out that way.
Better advice was never givin. Easy to learn and hard to miss with.
You know what you want, it's on the way, no worries. Use the intervening time to start picking up magazines [between eight and a dozen as a minimum is about right, depending on how you care to carry them and how much personal mobility you figure is required by the probable situtaions you might face[ this being where I go for DPMS AP4/AR10 mags. And, of course, get all the ammo you can.
If you can't get your Vector V51, you might go with a PTR or Century CETME clone instead, of lower quality and corresponding lower price, but in the same general size as your AR10. But should it come to that, you can put on a H&K G3 collapsable stock or Choate folder, and surplus G3 magazines can still be had for 12 for $24 or so- 2 bucks each.
as for the Trijicon, yeah, they're good, and yes they are pricey, though not quite as bad as top=of-the-line Elcans or US Optics stuff. But if nothing else, pick up a $200 surplus British SUIT, which requires no batteries for operation, as an intirm placeholder or cheap insurance in the event of Trijicon damage.
You have an excellent attitude; I wish I had your spirit, but I seem slowly to be running out of gas.
I would agree pretty much completely with Zak Smith’s recommendations in the first article, he’s a solid 3 gun shooter and an equipment geek that knows the gear.
He notes superiority of TA11 and also highlights MRT and Accupoint variables.
None will be of much use with fixed A2 carrying handle, however. But, there is much to be said for skill with an iron sighted rifle.
Thanks for the advise. I really wanted the Vector V-51, but it was just too much trouble to obtain.
I'm not saying I haven't slowed down a bit. I just finished stacking two cords of fire wood yesterday. I had to break out the "Icy Hot". But I still keep going.
One look at two cords of firewood in need of stacking, and I’d be on the couch with a beer.
You sit on the couch with a beer after stacking it. The beer tastes better at that point.
Oh, well - I guess I’ll just have to settle for how it tastes without stacking that wood.... but I very much admire your drive!
The Schmidt & Bender 3-12 x 50 PMII LP is replacing a 10x sniper scope which has been in use for the last 25 years. The Schmidt & Bender scope was selected from products submitted by 25 different companies as the only riflescope to meet or exceed all of the USMCs rigorous specifications.
The Schmidt & Bender scope includes an elevation dial made to USMC specifications. Especially attractive to the Marine Corps is the fact that the 3-12 x 50 PMII LP can be used on both .308 and .50 caliber weapons, with changes only in windage and elevation dials.
While the modified USMC version of the 3-12 x 50 PMII LP is not available to the public, a similar model is available.
We are pleased and honored to serve one of the most elite, storied military organizations in the world.
But they ARE EXPENSIVE.
