New African-American Freerper (Vanity)
11-9-2008 | Obushma

Posted on 11/09/2008 5:45:35 PM PST by Obushma

Hi All Freepers! I am a new Freeper---been here to just read news and posts for over a year and now am motivated to do something after the disappointing loss on last Tuesday. Below is where I stand politically and my two cents where the GOP needs to move to for success---I do NOT endorse scrapping the GOP for a new party. I endorse gaining control of the GOP from the grass roots with some cosmetic/PR changes:

I voted for McCain-Palin although I’m not a Republican. I'm now strongly considering formally joining the GOP.

As of now I support Sarah Palin to run in 2012.

My thoughts on some Public Relation changes (Not Necessarily Changes in Principles):

1 Drop the formal opposition to Affirmative Action : This mutes the charge of “historical opposition/indifference to civil rights”. The opposition to AA/Quotas can remain in principle.

2 Drop the formal opposition to “Amnesty” for Illegal Immigrants: Focus on securing the borders. The status of the 20 million or so illegal immigrants is now more or less an Obama/Democrat problem and has been essentially a lost issue for the GOP. We in opposition to Obama will need to cut into his Hispanic support in 2012 in order to defeat him.

3 Drop formal opposition to Environmentalism. Yes, I know that environmental extremist are nuts, but the GOP must recognize when a battle is probably lost and not waste precious political capital on what I consider minor issues (especially when there will be major battles to be fought over major issues). Remember this is just a formal dropping of an issue, but not the issue itself in principle.

4 Focus on middle class, middle class, middle class!

5 Focus on domestic/economic/education issues. Less on foreign policy. To be sure there will certainly be new issues of both to tackle in ’12, but I can guarantee with the failed economic policies put in place by The Obama administration---domestic policies will again be front and center.

6 Build bridges to unions/working class. Historically Unions and the GOP have been arch-enemies. But the alliance between big business and the GOP in decline. Big Business seem to have found a new love REDs---“Rich Elite Democrats”. We need to counter this with courting some of there core constituencies. This may have already have begun in West Virginia and among many Hillary Clinton Dems.

7 Continue with strong opposition to Gay “marriage”, Abortion and Adult Euthanasia.

8 Continue with strong opposition to Islamic Extremism, and Socialistic Liberal Extremism.

9 Continue to be strong on crime, the death penalty and gun ownership rights.

Sorry for what you guys call a “Vanity” but these were just some of my post-election observations as a right of center African American. Tell me what all you Freepers think!

Talk about putting the “vain” back in Vanity. Is there anything else that we conservatives can do for you? Back rub, maybe?

Oh my, was that necessary, I would be highly offended if I were sincere and greeted by that? Maybe he's/she's the real deal, and I welcome you, Obushma. If there were a litmus test for a FReeper, I might fail it.

It's too soon to tell if I want Palin in 2012. I really liked her and saw what a magnetic personality she had. As to the GOP, I don't know what is wrong there, I see why we have to keep up with the times plus I think they aren't as inclusive of minorities as the Democrats. How we get back to real conservatism and become more inclusive at the same time, I don't see the GOP leaders being able to do that without moving more to the left. They are a vehicle for a smaller movement (FR types) within a larger one and probably can't afford to lose their religious base of which I happen to be part of, but it's not all about that with me.

I know there have been too many vanities lately, but I think it's a good way for newcomers to delurk or join in.

Welcome. You have some good points except for the amnesty one (maybe you don’t live in SoCal!).

Re the vanity thing. I was thinking about this yesterday. People get upset over “vanities” when really what are they other than conversation starters? At this point, it seems inconsistent allowing only what is published in the left wing media to determine what is fitting for Free Republic to talk about. They should not be leading OUR choice of topics.

I think you need to become an American.

Whether you are black, white, yellow or jiggly orange polka-dotted, has no bearing on whether you are a conservative or whether or not you'll be accepted or not on this forum.

That hyphenated crap always has turned me off and has no relevance on this forum unless you're trying to bait someone.

The trouble with your proposals is that you’re shedding core issues left and right, and only holding on to the social conservative concerns

Heresy alert: I thinks Romney got it right. The three issues are: strong military, strong economy, strong family. Get those right and you don't need Big Givernment. Everything, including social concerns, will fall into place.

The Gods of the Copybook Headings

AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
Rudyard Kipling

Welcome to Free Republic, Obushma. I disagree with your points on the fact that IMO, the Repubs lost the election BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT a clearly defined conservative ideology for the public to contrast with the "Change" message from the other camp. From the other conservatives I have spoken to, it seems that most (myself included) are fed up with the Republicrats that have been foisted upon us for so many years as the candidates to support, and their (seemingly) deliberate impersonation of the big spenders in the Democrat party.

Romney is a good marketer. He did distill things down to those three simple points, and I can’t disagree with them. I do, however, think Romney is fatally flawed as a Republican presidential candidate. He’s too much of a chameleon.

I cant stand the hypen crap either.... USA is a melting pot of many countries .... that is why we are here for over 200 years and what we are today. My family has been here over 100 years.....I am an AMERICAN.... that is all...I have descendants from other countries who left their homelands but we all are Americans...

Who started this African American jingo anyway??? Are they duel citizens? Or is this another attempt to make them more inferior?? I just dont know anymore?

I would like to extend and revise my esteemed colleague’s excellent remarks:

Because the 14th amendment has been twisted to grant anchor babies of illegal immigrants citizenship, you have tens of millions of children growing up in households where they have no loyalty to the United States and no understanding of our constitution. Therefore they are Democrats by definition.

Most of what now calls itself environmentalism is really a front for what you correctly called Socialistic Liberal Extremism. 90% of environmental legislation has nothing to do with Spotted Owls or fresh water mussels, it has everything to do with crippling capitalism.

Pop quiz: who was the only union member to be elected President? Ronald Reagen. Who was the only member of a union household in this election? Sarah Palin.

Economy and education should be a top priority. Unfortunately, the two candidates in this election were indistinguishable. The problems with both were too much government. The solutions to both are less government.

America is slowly becoming weaker. The thugs and dictators of the world smell blood (See Osama Bin Laden referring to us as a paper tiger after the Somolia debacle). Foreign policy and domestic policy are forever linked. If our foreign policy is weak our economic position will be also. If we have a weak domestic policy then we have no bargaining position in the world.
