Two sheriff's detectives testified in Sacramento Superior Court today about four women who said they were inappropriately touched by their divorce lawyer, who has been charged with sexual battery.
Detectives James Barnes and Anthony Brantley gave their accounts based on interviews with the four alleged victims in the case against attorney Gary Appleblatt.
The testimony came in a preliminary hearing for Appleblatt. He is facing 10 counts of felony sexual battery, three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery and one count of forced sexual penetration.
The detectives testified that the four women said in interviews that Appleblatt told them he had a pharmacist's degree and that he further informed them that he thought they looked like they were sick.
They said he took out a stethoscope and a rubber physician's mallet and performed some routine examinations before he conducted unrequested breast examinations on the women. He also sought to conduct a pelvic exam on one of the alleged victims, the detectives said.
Each of the four women told Appleblatt to stop, which prompted an apology on his part as well as requests for them to "keep it between them," the detectives testified.

Who would have thought a lawyer with a medical degree ....
sexual battery? Not a good description.
What did they expect, everyone knows that lawyers have their hands in everyone’s pockets?
There’s a lot more to this story. He also had several clients who he got to agree to sexual contact in order to pay the fees they owed him. If there was an attractive, vulnerable client, he’d run up the bill and then make this suggestion. Since they voluntarily agreed, there is no criminal complaint but the California State Bar sure is interested.
When I knew Gary, he was having an affair with his doof-ass assistant. She drove everybody nuts - no wonder he lost it.
Is the last name spelled correctly?
No Gary Appleblatt or just Appleblatt listed in Calafornia.
There’s nobody in this country who hasn’t been inappropriately touched by a lawyer.
People still fall for that old trick?!
I still wonder about this guy.
Who goes to a lawyer's office in a sundress without a bra?! How vulgar is that? I don't want to blame the victim (if she actually is a victim) but that's a mixed signal.
Where do I go to be inappropriately touched?
The Castro District in San Francisco.
Cellblock D.
I have heard of getting screwed by a lawyer but....really......... ;)
Ok, ok, I asked for that...
I don’t think that’s “blaming the victim,” which would be wrong, but rather questioning the “victim’s” veracity, which would be appropriate.
But in any event the lawyer is a sleeze.
Intersting, you knew that guy, I knew this guy: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2087706/posts
