Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki moved Monday to undermine the popularity of the Iraqi who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush, saying the journalist confessed that the mastermind of the attack was a militant known for slitting his victims' throats.

Yes, as in “throw shoes at Bush or I slit your son’s throat. That’s how they also get a family of 4 to drive a VBIED into a convoy. Because it’s actually a larger family and the remainder will be killed if the others don’t do it. Live and learn.
Could be that Mr Shoes is just afraid and tries to escape responsibility.
Do you think that this story has legs or do you think the original story of his anti-Americanism is valid or maybe a combo of both?
I don’t believe the part about him being beaten at the press conference, I think his squealing like a pig which could be heard on the tape was because he’s a major big time wussy. I’m not inclined to believe he was beaten up later, either, but I really don’t care if he was or not. He gets no sympathy from me whatsoever.
The unanswered question is whether the shoe thrower is a Shoeunni or a Shoeite.
