On Obama's agenda, according to his White House website, is the goal to "encourage diversity in media ownership."
Obama elaborates on the site that his aim is to "encourage diversity in the ownership of broadcast media, promote the development of new media outlets for expression of diverse viewpoints, and clarify the public interest obligations of broadcasters who occupy the nation's spectrum."
The plan apparently aligns with longstanding Democratic suggestions to resurrect the "Fairness Doctrine."
The policy was abandoned in 1987 under President Reagan when there were 75 radio talk shows in the U.S. Reagan opposed the policy because it required broadcast TV and radio programs to air "opposing views" on political issues, which had the practical effect of virtually eliminating opinion programs.
Since abandonment of the Fairness Doctrine, the number of radio talk shows has risen to more than 3,000.

How much would any talk show host have to pay to get the kind of advertising that Oh Bummer gave Rush at no charge? Rush must be ecstatic!!!
Just bought a (rather long) book on Germany from 1933 to 1939. Guess what? This is exactly what the Nazi’s did. To a ‘T’. Ein reich, ein volk, ein fuhrer. Diversity? Yeah, right.

...he’s NOT “ecstatic”. He’s a capitalist but he’s not stupid. He likes a good fight but he’s having to fight with one hand tied behind his back. His power, influence and listenership would go to ZERO if BO gets his way. I’m positive that Rush has plans to work around the Marxist. As BO has plans to work around Rush’s plans.

...I hope you’re right! So far, the sheeple are flat lining.
There are plenty of ways to get around BO. The internet is one, and satellite radio is another (I have XM and Sirius on two different cars).
Our only hope is that Congress is too inefficient to get anything substantial done on all three fronts (terrestrial radio, satellite radio and internet) in the next 4 years.

If the radio stations refuse to comply BO Plenty could have them shut off but that would invite valid comparisons to Nazi book burning and the arrests of German radio employees and editors/reporters by the Nazis.
How about a few 50-100K watt transmitters just offshore.
This sounds ludicrous, but it happened to me as well!!
Years ago I was teaching in Dallas and wanted to get a job closer to home in the same district (further north). There was a school perfectly located nearby my home, so I went in for an interview. Principal was a lovely lady, said she loved my resume and obvious love for children and teaching—BUT told me ‘unofficially’ she couldn’t hire me for the job opening because it was required to be filled with either a black applicant or a hispanic!!! She was disgusted as well with the ‘reverse discrimination’ against me and other qualified teachers who weren’t black or hispanic. (I’m about as blonde, blue eyed and white as you can get)
Those kids had substitutes the rest of the school year because they never had qualified applicants come in. That was a shame because (not just bragging here) I was a HIGHLY qualified teacher who would have worked wonders with those kids (always got job evals of exceeds expectations and my kids always advanced at least one grade level).
I quit at the end of my contract and went to another district.
