So don’t support them. Get a dog from elsewhere. And do what you are doing now - telling everyone about their practices. That way, others can avoid adopting from them if they support our military.

They should be “allowed” to be as idiotic or irrational as they want.

What you meant to say was, if they choose to have their decisions biased by military status, right-minded individuals should vote with their pocketbook and go elsewhere.

You should go to the press with this. Contact your local media and see where it goes from there. This is a terrible policy of this GSD rescue and something needs to be done.

Oh, and THANK YOU for your service!

Most dog rescues make it very difficult to get a dog from them. They come and see your house and ask for references. When no one adopts from them, they cry about no funds and too many dogs that nobody wants. I got 2 great dogs from shelters.

Some animal lovers go to extremes when judging situations with pets. My guess is you have some OC-area pretentiousness combined with a volunteer who sees dogs the same as human children who need a specific type of home.

So when a family wants to adopt a dog they see as a pet and not equal to a child, there are going to be conflicts and mismatches.

We adopted a collie from a collie rescue here in the IE (we moved from OC 5 years ago) and they did a home visit. I was concerned that we were going to have one of those situations like yours, but instead she was just looking to see that we had the basic accomodations for the dog and wanted assurances that he wouldn’t be outside all day/night. These people were very down-to-earth and good people.

Maybe try a GS rescue in the IE or just visit a county shelter regularly and pick one up directly.

Best to you.

Welcome to FR.

You have any documentation to support this allegation?

Why would you, indeed?
Rescues are not worth the hassle. Get a dog from the pound.

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with that group...

Why don't you try German Shepherd Rescue of Las Vegas? They are actually located in Pahrump, NV, not far from the California state line.

I adopted an awesome, beautiful German Shepherd from them in September, so I can personally recommend them (& yes, they do allow out of state adoptions). Their adoption rates are a fraction of what Orange County is asking also...

After I drove out there, Belinda spent as much time with me as necessary to find out which dog would fit in best with our family. I really had a good experience there, and I hope you'll give her a call ~ German Shepherds really are the best!
